Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain custom test frameworks used to run and test Illumina's primary analysis software
  • Work with the development team to understand new software changes and accordingly adapt tests
  • Identify gaps in existing tests and proactively develop new tests to improve reliability and coverage of tests
  • Investigate test failures, triage issues, and work with developers to diagnose root causes
  • Expand and maintain test coverage as primary analysis capabilities and responsibilities evolve
  • Ensure tests are clear, well-documented, reproducible - supporting long-term maintainability
Requirements
  • Experience developing production-quality code using Python or C#
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools, workflows, and troubleshooting them
  • Prior background in writing and maintaining automation for complex systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with co-workers on and outside the team
Desired
  • Experience testing data-intensive, scientific, or computational analysis software
  • Familiarity with custom automation frameworks
  • Working knowledge of Python data visualization libraries
  • Basic proficiency with the software release process documentation and deliverables
  • Prior experience with benchmarking and performance monitoring of software on hardware
  • Exposure with product software lifecycle tool(s)
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of professional experience developing production-ready software code and tests
Salary

The estimated base salary range for the Senior Software Engineer in Test role based in the United States of America is: $129,400 - $194,000. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. The range reflects long-term growth in the role; therefore, most candidates are hired between the minimum and middle of the range. Placement depends on experience, skills, location, and internal equity. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
