Job Summary:
Student Supervisors at the Law Library aid in the operation of Taggart Law Library's circulation and technical services departments by staffing the circulation desk, assisting patrons, performing stacks maintenance duties, and participating in other library projects. Student supervisors also oversee other student workers, manage projects, serve as a mediator, and perform other duties as assigned. They must have served as a library student assistant for at least one year.
Principal Responsibilities
  • Staff the circulation desk and assist patrons with checking materials in and out
  • Remain engaged and cordial with all library patrons entering and exiting the library
  • Answer basic questions for patrons such as inquiries about library policies
  • Assist patrons with basic tasks such as locating items in the library and addressing minor technology issues
  • Complete opening and closing procedures for the Law Library
  • Perform shelving, shelf reading, and other stacks maintenance tasks such as shifting
  • Perform basic cleaning tasks such as wiping down study carrels and dusting bookshelves
  • Assist Law Library staff and librarians with special projects
  • Required to work at least one closing weekday shift and/or weekend shift
  • Provide advanced department assistance on special tasks and projects
  • Serve as a mediator between students and staff
  • Provide supervision during evenings and weekends
  • Help train other student workers
  • Provide feedback as requested
  • Cultivate training material
  • Assist in coordinating shift changes
