Position Summary
The Library Student Assistant provides front-line support to library users and helps maintain a welcoming, organized, and efficient library environment. Under the supervision of library staff, Student Assistants perform a variety of circulation, shelving, and facility maintenance tasks to support the daily operations of the library.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist patrons at the circulation desk by checking materials in and out, answering directional and basic information questions, and referring complex inquiries to library staff.
  • Assist patrons to locate materials in collections.
  • Shelve returned materials accurately and maintain the order and appearance of the library's collections.
  • Perform physical processing of library materials, including labeling, stamping, and covering books.
  • Assisting with basic technology questions (printers, copiers, scanners and computers)
  • Assist general public members by answering phone calls and responding to questions within library policies.
  • Monitor library spaces to ensure a clean, safe, and quiet environment conducive to study.
  • Maintain library supplies and facilities, including checking and refilling office and printer supplies.
  • Assist with setting up and maintaining drink or refreshment stations.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, facility issues, or patron concerns to the supervisor promptly.
  • Support other library projects or tasks as assigned.
