Job description
Assist children, parents, and patrons of all ages with library services, including circulation, reader advisory, eResources, new material requests, and reference. Assist Librarians with the creation, presentation, and coordination of active and passive library programs. Answer patrons' technology and software questions, including email, ebooks, eresources, printing, and device settings. Aid in the selection and deselection of youth and teen library materials. Gather and report performance statistics. Issue library cards. Register patrons in library programs. Instruct patrons on library resources, including personal librarian appointments. Collect fines/fees and make change. Set up rooms and equipment for patron use. Perform routine clerical tasks. Support the opening and closing of City Hall facilities. Other tasks/areas as assigned.
Bachelor's degree with training emphasis in library science or allied field supplemented by 1 to 3 years of in-person patron/customer service; previous experience and/or training involving youth education, library work, or any equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform essential public library job functions. Students currently enrolled in undergraduate studies or an ALA-accredited Library/Information Master's Program are encouraged to apply.
Ability to think analytically. Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment. Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and present ideas clearly and concisely. Ability to make decisions and interpret policies. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, volunteers, community agencies, and the public. Ability to organize job duties and work independently. Ability to communicate confidently, articulately, and professionally verbally and in writing. Ability to multitask. Ability to use common software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Overdrive, etc.). Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to count change and handle money. Ability to place items in correct order (alphabetical, numerical, etc.). Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds on occasion. Ability to work with and troubleshoot office machines (i.e. copier, fax machine, scanner, etc.). Ability to apply library policies and procedures. Ability to work as part of a team.
