Media Secretary - School Media Center

Locations: McDonald/William Ford

Qualifications:

  • High school education; some college preferred.
  • Must pass the test administered to applicants for Media Secretary position in the DPS.
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain effective working relationships with students and/or co-workers
  • Service-oriented, courteous and tactful, dependable and flexible.

Reporting: Consultant - Media Services/Technology, School Media Specialist.

Job Goal: Assist the Media Specialist in the implementation of the school library media program and the service it provides to school community.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain library media automated circulation system and the computer for patron use in the media center.
  • Perform automated circulation tasks, such as reserves/holds, booking and/or scheduling, delivering materials and equipment as required per building when time permits.
  • Maintain a list of media center materials/supplies as required/requested by specialists to be ordered when necessary.
  • Generate overdue notices and circulation reports
  • Locate and retrieve materials and equipment for students and staff, assist them in using the media center resources as time permits.
  • Assist in the operation and minor repair of materials.
  • Shelve books, other materials and maintain files.
  • Check directories to determine the availability of materials.
  • Assist student helpers and other volunteers in the media center, under agreement with the specialist.
  • Assist students with material searches when time permits.
  • At the discretion of the media specialist and when time permits, plan and execute showcase and bulletin board displays or direct student preparation of he same.
  • Respond to the interests and needs of the students and staff under the supervision of the Media Specialist.

Terms of Employment: 45 Weeks DFSE Salary Schedule

Classification: Media Secretary

Evaluation: Annually, by the bldg. principal, assistant principal or Department Head.
