Library Assistant

NorthWest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) provides quality and affordable higher education to empower lives and strengthen communities within Northwest Arkansas and surrounding areas. This Part-Time Library Assistant helps deliver library services by assisting patrons in their use of library spaces and services. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. This position works a variable schedule including evenings and weekends.

Essential Duties:

  • Staff library service desks, opening and closing library spaces as assigned
  • Greets patrons, helping and directing them to requested service points within the facility and to other departments within the College
  • Access borrower records to check library materials in and out, renew items, and update account information as needed
  • Shelves library materials and preserves the physical appearance and order of collections through shelving, shelf reading, and shifting
  • Guides patrons in using computers, copiers, equipment, and printers
  • Collects and logs library charges when appropriate, making change for cash transactions
  • Inspects items for damage and notifies a supervisor if needed
  • Ensures users receive excellent customer service
  • Maintains confidentiality of user information
  • Contributes to work in other library functional areas as needed
  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary to support the goals and objectives of the department and college

Rate of Pay: $14.00 per Hour

Position Averages 19 hours per week during normal operating hours

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of experience in a library environment or a related field

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the organization and administration of various higher education academic and social programs
  • Knowledge of campus and community resources
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and campus rules, regulations, and requirements related to campus academic and social programs
  • Ability to coordinate the activities of campus academic and/or social programs
  • Ability to evaluate collected information and formulate into recommendations
  • Ability to compile information into report form
