Responsibilities
Job Purpose
The Market Strategy Associate develops key insights and recommendations for Pattern's business development, operations, origination, and external affairs organizations across North America. This role connects market research and economic modelling to understand how power market dynamics, regulatory trends, and competitive landscapes impact project viability and long-term business planning. The Associate also leads the development and maintenance of Pattern's market data library and visualization toolsets, ensuring teams have access to accurate, up-to-date information to support asset optimization and strategic decision-making.
Key Accountabilities
  • Deliver competitive analysis for Pattern's portfolio of renewable and transmission assets, with a focus on supply and demand fundamentals and project economics.
  • Build techno-economic models to evaluate market conditions, forecast revenue potential, and stress-test profitability under varying cost, interconnection, and policy scenarios.
  • Develop and maintain Pattern's library of market data and visualization toolsets, ensuring teams have access to accurate, up-to-date information
  • Maintain and synthesize market datasets relating to Pattern's long-term merchant revenue assumptions
  • Consult with development and operations teams to support project commercialization and decision making

Qualifications
Education/Experience/Qualifications Required
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field, such as Finance, Engineering, Math, or Economics from an accredited university or college. Master's Degree is a plus

Experience:
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience providing quantitative analysis, financial analysis, or consulting.
  • Direct experience with power markets, clean energy technologies, project development, or other aspects of the energy economy.

Qualifications:
  • Foundational knowledge of North American wholesale power markets. Understanding of regulatory/policy frameworks relevant to utility-scale renewable development (RPS, IRP, Capacity Markets).
  • Experience with modelling/forecasting/analytics and working with data.
  • Exposure to power market modelling concepts is a plus (Production Cost, LP Optimization, Capacity Expansion)
  • Financial modelling and valuation fluency with respect to energy economics (LCOE/LCOS, IRR/NPV).
  • Strong communication skills and confidence with executive presentations

Additional Requirements
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in using a programming language for data analysis (Python, R, Matlab, etc..)
  • Proficiency in Excel for purposes of interpreting project financial models

The expected starting pay range for this role is $98,000 - $120,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern's compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
