Job description

Part-Time Library Assistant

This is a part-time Career Service position with an hourly pay rate of $16.69.

Position Summary

The Part-Time Library Assistant provides library services and customer support to students, employees, and community patrons. This position performs circulation, technical services, and acquisitions functions while assisting users with library resources, the College portal, and Canvas. The Library Assistant supports daily library operations by providing outstanding customer service and ensuring patrons have access to the resources and assistance they need.

About the College – SJR State is a public college located in beautiful northeast Florida along the shores of the St. Johns River. With three campuses in Clay, Putnam, and St. Johns counties, SJR State serves nearly 10,000 students each year from among a population base of 600,000 in one of the fastest-growing areas of the country. Known for its natural beauty and quality of life, SJR State's service area includes St. Augustine, the nation's oldest city; Palatka, the "Gem City of the St. Johns;" and Orange Park, with roots going back to the Spanish period in Florida history.

Schedule:

Monday – Thursday, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. & Sunday, 1:00 – 5:00 pm (Fall & Spring Terms)

Monday – Thursday, 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. & Sunday, 1:00 – 5:00 pm (Summer Term)

Duties and Responsibilities

Library Services and Customer Support

• Provide library services to students, employees, and community patrons

• Perform circulation, technical services, and acquisitions duties as assigned

• Deliver outstanding customer service to library users

• Answer directional and informational questions regarding library services and resources

• Explain and enforce library policies and procedures

• Assist with library initiatives, projects, and special events

Technology and Resource Assistance

• Provide basic assistance with Microsoft Office applications

• Assist users with library databases and electronic resources

• Provide support for the College portal and Canvas Learning Management System

• Assist patrons in locating and utilizing library materials and services

Administrative Support

• Maintain accurate circulation and library records

• Assist with daily library operations and organization of library materials

• Support staff with departmental projects and activities as assigned

• Perform other related duties in support of Learning Resources operations

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or acceptable equivalency diploma required

• Customer service experience required

• Two professional references required

• Library and office experience preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of customer service principles and practices

• Ability to provide courteous and professional service to a diverse population

• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and standard computer software

• Ability to learn and utilize library resources, the College portal, and Canvas

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Strong organizational and time management skills

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

• Ability to explain policies and procedures clearly and professionally
