Job description

Position Summary:
The Cook is responsible for preparing adequate nutritional meals for the patients and staff, rotating food supplies, and ensuring food is managed according to regulatory standards while cleaning and sanitizing the work area throughout the course of their shift.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Accurately follow the facility's established menu schedule.
  • Prepare menu items according to appropriate food recipes. Knowledge of any patient food allergies and/or special dietary requirements and prepares accordingly.
  • Cleans and maintains kitchen equipment daily; notifying the Executive Chef immediately of any equipment repairs necessary to maintain kitchen operational standards.
  • Maintains a safe environment for the patients and staff by ensuring food is not left at improper temperatures and prevents cross-contamination of foods.
  • Follow proper sanitation practices, such as daily cleaning and proper storage of food items within the kitchen workspace.
  • Complete temperature sheets and/or logs daily.
  • Stock the storeroom and cooler daily.
  • Remove empty boxes and trash throughout the course of their shift.
  • Demonstrates competence in one or more of the following areas:
    • Establishing rapport, systematically gathering assessment data, evaluating readiness for treatment and change, and applying accepted diagnostic criteria for substance use disorders.
    • Screening for psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms.

Licensures and/or Certifications

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of two (2) years experience of cooking, food service worker, kitchen assistant, chef assistant, or other related experience in a substance abuse center, psychiatric facility, or other health care related and/or recovery setting.
