Computer Technician
The Position
West Chester Township has an immediate need to fill a Computer Technician position. Under the general guidance and direction of the Director of Communications and Information Technology, the Computer Technician will provide help desk services for all users with any hardware or software issues, including break-fix, new installs and/or upgrades. They will perform daily maintenance and inspection of all Township networks and systems such as VMware servers, wireless networks, workstation updates or errors. This includes Windows updates, Firmware updates or Software and OS upgrades. They will identify areas for improvement, such as network speeds or hardware upgrades and clean up.
This position will support all departments of our local government, including Police, Fire, Dispatch, Community Services, Community Development, and Administration. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to be analytical and problem-solve, and the ability to exercise sound judgment.
A standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:30am - 4:30pm. Since this position supports a 24/7 operation, you may be asked to handle after-hours responses to IT problems/outages.
The pay for this position starts at $27.03

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to computer operators for technical problems as needed to resolve issues promptly.
  • Make sure computer systems are up to date with critical security patches using the Township's Windows Update server.
  • Maintain, configure, test, update, and back up all computing software (i.e. Windows OS, Microsoft Office, VMware, Adobe, and various other software).
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance and diagnostic testing on computer systems hardware and perform necessary upgrades to maximize performance and maintain relevance. This includes RAM, drive, and graphics updates.
  • Identify network bottlenecks, connection issues, and identify and implement overall network improvements.
  • Identify and research new and/or improved equipment and software needs.
  • Upgrade and maintain all network closet cables as needed in all township areas to keep them organized and working efficiently.
  • Inventory management to track existing equipment, identify new equipment needs and track all active systems

Experience/Education
  • 2 years related training at vocational school or college degree in the IT field required
  • Three (3+) years prior on-the-job IT experience required
  • Valid Driver's License and Reasonable Insurability
  • Network + and A+ certifications required
  • Cisco CCNA certification preferred
