Job description


We are looking for a talented Product Design Technician - Level II to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Mineral Point, WI.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
  • Ensure Specification Accuracy: You will create and maintain precise product drawings and models that meet Cummins, industry, and international standards-supporting product integrity and compliance.
  • Drive Quality Through GD&T: By applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, you'll help ensure that parts fit and function as intended, reducing errors and improving manufacturability.
  • Safeguard Design Data: Your use of CAD data management tools will protect sensitive design information and maintain configuration control, supporting secure and efficient workflows.
  • Support Engineering Operations: Processing internal engineering work requests keeps projects moving and ensures timely delivery of design updates and documentation.
  • Collaborate Across Functions: Engaging with cross-functional teams will help align design specifications with broader engineering, manufacturing, and quality goals.
  • Uphold Standards and Best Practices: You will contribute to the development and maintenance of drawing standards and practices, reinforcing consistency and excellence across the organization.
  • Enhance Drawing Quality: Participating in Drawing Quality Reviews allows you to identify and correct issues early, improving the overall reliability of product documentation.
  • Impact Product Lifecycle: Your work directly influences how products are designed, built, and maintained, playing a key role in Cummins' performance and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
  • Strong CAD Modeling Skills: Ability to create accurate and standards-compliant Computer Aided Design models that support system-level analyses like Dimensional Variation and Finite Element Analysis.
  • Deep Understanding of Mechanical Systems: A solid grasp of mechanical design principles and lifecycle requirements to develop innovative, robust solutions that meet both Cummins and customer expectations.
  • Specification Development Expertise: Proficiency in generating complete and precise product specifications-including solid models, BOMs, and detailed drawings-that clearly communicate design intent across functions.
  • Effective Configuration and Change Management: Skill in managing product data from concept through obsolescence, ensuring traceability, integrity, and timely communication of changes.
  • Decision-Making and Results Orientation: Ability to make sound, timely decisions and consistently deliver high-quality outcomes, even in complex or high-pressure situations.
  • Complex Problem-Solving: Capacity to analyze and make sense of large volumes of technical information, including contradictory data, to solve design and engineering challenges effectively.

Education/Experience
  • High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.
  • Regionally applicable certification or two-year associate's degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study may be required.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
  • Requires some work experience and intermediate level knowledge obtained through education, training, or on-the-job experience.

Qualifications
Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensures model and drawing quality.
  • Creates and maintains product specifications utilizing Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing.
  • Utilizes Computer Aided Design (CAD) data management tools for configuration control and to maintain security.
  • Ensures application of company, industry, national, and international standards.
  • Processes internal engineering work requests.
  • Engages with required functional areas as needed.
  • Participate in the maintenance of standards and practices which ensure quality.
  • Participate in Drawing Quality Reviews, tooling design, process troubleshooting, and safety/production improvements.
  • Cross functional team involvement
