Sterling Engineering is partnering with an industry-leading manufacturer to hire an Electrical Design Engineer in New Berlin, WI. This is a hands-on engineering opportunity focused on designing electrical systems and control panels for large custom industrial equipment.
You’ll work on projects from electrical design through testing and commissioning, with exposure to motor controls, drives, transformers, power distribution, and custom control panels. This is a great opportunity for an electrical engineer who enjoys seeing their designs move from drawings to actual equipment on the manufacturing floor.

Location: New Berlin, WI 53151

Salary: $90,000–$110,000

Hire Type: Direct Hire

What You’ll Do
  • Design electrical systems for custom industrial equipment from concept through completion
  • Create and modify electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, panel layouts, interconnect drawings, and conduit drawings
  • Design electrical control panels and custom enclosures for industrial equipment
  • Perform electrical calculations including wire sizing, transformer sizing, drive selection, braking resistors, contactors, overload protection, and other power distribution components
  • Select electrical components including motors, drives, transformers, breakers, contactors, and related control hardware
  • Apply NEC requirements and applicable electrical design standards throughout the design process
  • Partner with Project Managers, manufacturing, purchasing, service, and other engineering teams to keep projects moving
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), troubleshooting, and equipment validation
  • Assist with Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), equipment startup, and commissioning as needed
  • Troubleshoot electrical design and equipment issues alongside engineering and field service teams
  • Recommend design improvements to enhance equipment performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • 3+ years of electrical design experience within industrial equipment, machinery, automation, manufacturing, or a related environment
  • Experience creating and interpreting electrical schematics and electrical drawings
  • Hands-on experience with electrical control panel design
  • Experience with motor controls, drives, transformers, and industrial power distribution
  • Ability to perform electrical design calculations including wire sizing, component sizing, and electrical protection
  • Working knowledge of NEC requirements
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to collaborate with manufacturing and other engineering teams
  • Ability to travel approximately 15%
Preferred Experience
