Description

Solterra Academy provides comprehensive special education for students aged 5 to 22 requiring intensive intervention due to severe emotional, behavioral, cognitive, developmental, and/or learning challenges. We believe in fostering an environment that is supportive, developmentally appropriate, and tailored to specific individual needs. Our dedication lies in the cooperative, self-motivated, adjusted, and academically accomplished development of each child.


Are you a certified Special Education Teacher seeking a unique opportunity? Are you passionate and skilled in helping students who require a therapeutic school with a high staff-to-student ratio? As a Special Education Teacher, you'll provide engaging and differentiated academic lessons for all subjects for the classroom. Teachers will work collaboratively with our clinicians, administration, and classroom support staff to ensure student success within our program.


School Year Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM. (In-Person)

Mandatory Summer Session: Monday to Friday 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM (In-Person)

BA Level Candidate Starting Salary: $60,000+

MA Level Candidate Starting Salary: $64,000+


Responsibilities

  • Prepare students' individual goals and objectives in SMART format.
  • Implement the IEP as approved by the PPT.
  • Submit report cards and IEP progress marks by due dates, proofing and editing as needed.
  • Develop a system to track student progress on IEP goals.
  • Conduct academic assessments three times a year (i.e., Star 360) to track student progress and inform IEP goals and objectives.
  • Prepare for and participate in PPT's.
  • Prepare for and participate in Team Meetings.
  • Develop written lesson plans and implement engaging, differentiated academic lessons aligned with the Common Core State Standards for all subjects within the classroom.
  • Daily communication with parents/guardians via home notes, emails, or phone calls.

Behavior Management

  • Implement PBIS practices with fidelity.
  • Implement TCI strategies to support students emotionally and behaviorally.
  • Implement students' BIPs throughout the school day.
  • Demonstrate the ability to set limits and maintain personal boundaries.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in all interactions with students/families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Level: BA Degree in Special Education from an accredited college or university required.
  • Master's Level: MA degree in Education from an accredited college or university.
  • DSAP Level: BA degree from an accredited college or university with at least 12 credits in special education and current enrollment in SPED certification program.
  • All Levels: Minimum of one year of experience in a special education classroom preferred. Some experience with ED population required.
  • BA and MA Level Valid CT 165 certification from CT SDE
  • CPR certification required (training provided by Solterra Academy).
  • Certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention required with the first training course provided after hire date (training provided by Solterra Academy).
  • Summer School Participation, hours are 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
