ShareSTAFF is hiring Lead Vein Harvesting and OR Support in a Level 1 Trauma Cardiothoracic Programs for contract assignments at an Inpatient & Outpatient in Louisville, Kentucky. This locum Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant opportunity offers a 12-hour shift schedule (6:30 AM–6:00 PM) at a Level 1 trauma center in Louisville, Kentucky, with an average daily census of 40 patients on service. The role prioritizes OR support for 2 open cardiac cases per day — including coronaries, valve replacements, cardiac transplants, and VAD procedures — and requires proficiency in endoscopic vein harvesting. This is a defined 25-week assignment (September 1, 2026–February 28, 2027) with a 6-month minimum commitment, occasional weekend rounding, and conditional call coverage when APRN staffing is short. What You'll Do
  • Primary focus: OR support, ~2 open cardiac cases/day
  • Case types: coronaries, valve replacements, cardiac transplants, VADs
  • Endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) required
  • Occasional weekend inpatient rounding with an APRN
  • Conditional OR/floor call coverage if APRN staffing is short
What You Bring - Required
  • Active, unrestricted Kentucky PA license (must be active at time of application — this facility does not accept licensure-in-process candidates)
  • Board certified (NCCPA)
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS
  • Active DEA registration
  • Clean background check (7-year lookback), valid driver's license, KASPER account certificate
  • Certified Physician Assistant with cardiothoracic/cardiac surgery experience
  • Proficient in endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH), preferably using the Hemapro system
  • Comfortable managing high-acuity caseload: transplants, VADs, valve replacements
  • Experience in a Level 1 trauma or high-volume academic surgical program
What You Bring - Preferred
  • Prior locum tenens experience
  • Experience with weekend inpatient rounding alongside APRN teams
  • Comfort with variable call coverage in a high-acuity CT surgery program
  • Familiarity with Cerner EMR
