Lending Intern information

What does a lending intern do?

A Lending Intern typically assists the lending department of a bank, credit union, or other financial institution. Their responsibilities may include reviewing loan applications, gathering client documentation, conducting financial analysis, and supporting loan officers with administrative tasks. This internship provides hands-on experience in the lending process and helps interns learn about credit evaluation, risk assessment, and customer service. It is a valuable opportunity for students interested in finance or banking to develop practical skills and industry knowledge.

What types of projects and tasks can a lending intern expect to work on during their internship?

As a Lending Intern, you can expect to support loan officers and underwriting teams by assisting with application processing, performing credit analysis, and preparing documentation for loan approvals. You may also help with customer outreach, data entry, and compliance checks, gaining exposure to the full loan cycle. Working closely with experienced professionals, you'll develop a practical understanding of lending operations and have opportunities to shadow meetings or participate in training sessions, setting a strong foundation for a career in financial services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a lending intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Lending Intern, you need a solid understanding of financial principles, attention to detail, and basic knowledge of lending processes, often supported by coursework in finance, accounting, or business. Familiarity with loan management software, spreadsheets, and customer relationship management (CRM) systems is typically required. Strong communication, analytical thinking, and eagerness to learn help an intern stand out in this position. These skills and qualities are crucial for accurately assessing loan applications, supporting lending officers, and developing foundational expertise in financial services.
