What is a legal technology?

A Legal Technology job involves using technology to improve legal processes, enhance efficiency, and support legal professionals. These roles can include legal software development, document automation, e-discovery, case management, and data security. Professionals in legal tech often work with law firms, corporate legal departments, or legal service providers to implement and manage technology solutions. The goal is to streamline workflows, reduce costs, and improve access to legal services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in legal technology?

To thrive in Legal Technology, you need a solid understanding of both legal processes and technology solutions, often supported by a degree in law, information technology, or a related field. Strong communication, project management, and problem-solving skills will make you stand out in this role. These capabilities are crucial for effectively bridging the gap between legal teams and technical solutions to drive efficiency and compliance within legal operations.

What are the typical challenges faced in a legal technology role, and how can candidates be prepared to address them?

Professionals in Legal Technology often encounter challenges such as managing data security, integrating new software with existing systems, and helping legal teams adapt to process changes. Being prepared means staying up to date with privacy regulations, learning about emerging legal tech tools, and developing best practices for change management within the organization. Additionally, strong collaboration with both legal professionals and IT colleagues is important to ensure successful project outcomes. By proactively addressing these areas, Legal Technology specialists can help their firms achieve smoother transitions and stronger compliance.

Director, Legal Technology

We are Lennar
Lennar is one of the nation's leading homebuilders, dedicated to making an impact and creating an extraordinary experience for their Homeowners, Communities, and Associates by building quality homes and providing exceptional customer service, giving back to the communities in which we work and live in, and fostering a culture of opportunity and growth for our Associates throughout their career. Lennar has been recognized as a Fortune 500 company and consistently ranked among the top homebuilders in the United States.

A Career that Empowers You to Build Your Future

Lennar is investing in the future of its Legal organization, and the Director of Legal Technology will play a critical role in shaping what comes next.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a strategic, technology-forward operator who can help transform Legal into an AI-native, streamlined, and data-driven function. Reporting to and partnering closely with the VP of Legal & Compliance Operations, the Director will help define how Legal operates, prioritizes work, leverages technology, and delivers value to the broader business.

The ideal candidate brings a unique combination of legal technology expertise, business transformation experience, systems thinking, and a passion for using technology and AI to simplify complex work. This leader will translate business strategy into an operating roadmap, lead cross-functional transformation initiatives, and build the processes, systems, and capabilities needed to support a modern legal function at scale.

Responsibilities

  • A key leader to help transform legal into an AI-native, streamlined, data-driven operation.

  • Drives business and legal operating transformation, defines business prioritization frameworks and OKRs across concurrent implementation workstreams, balancing operational readiness, risk, and business value.

  • Drives the operational roadmap and business requirements across Legal Technology platforms (CLM, workflow tools, Legal Tracker, DocuSign etc.), partnering with Corporate Systems/IT on technical delivery.

  • Lead and develop a team responsible for business process design, training, adoption, and end-user support across legal systems.

  • Serve as the primary business owner for legal system implementations, gathering legal requirements and needs, process maps

  • Contribute to governance, evaluation criteria, and responsible-use policy for AI-assisted legal workflows (e.g., contract review, document extraction, entity screening) from a business/process standpoint, partnering with technical teams on implementation.

  • Direct prioritization of automation opportunities across the legal ops portfolio and represent business impact of AI/automation initiatives to executive and compliance stakeholders.

  • Coach team members on stakeholder management, process design, and career growth; conduct performance reviews and support hiring/onboarding.

  • Partner with technical teams on vendor relationships and SOW/contract performance for platform providers and implementation partners from a business outcomes lens; escalate delivery risk.

  • Help create executive status reporting, business cases, and staffing proposals; present roadmap, risk, and adoption metrics to leadership.

  • Facilitate cross-functional alignment across Legal Operations, Compliance, and IT on shared priorities, dependencies, and go-live readiness.

  • Establish and monitor business-side SLAs (intake, triage, escalation) for support, driving root-cause resolution and continuous process improvement.

  • Champion process redesign and change management initiatives that reduce manual effort or improve data quality/integrity across legal operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Administration, Legal Studies, Operations, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience.

  • 10+ years of experience in legal operations, business process management, or system implementation (business/functional side) within corporate legal, compliance, or enterprise environments, including 2+ years leading a team.

  • Demonstrated experience owning business requirements and adoption for a multi-platform legal technology environment (CLM, matter management/eBilling, or comparable).

  • Experience leading the business side of CLM implementations (e.g., Ironclad, Conga, Icertis, ContractPodAi) - requirements definition, workflow design, UAT, training, and adoption.

  • Experience defining governance, evaluation criteria, and use-case prioritization for AI-assisted legal workflows, partnering closely with technical/AI teams on execution.

  • Strong process design and business analysis skills; comfortable reading data/reporting outputs and translating them into decisions, without requiring hands-on SQL or scripting.

  • Systems thinking at a portfolio level: able to connect legal business strategy to a coherent operating model across systems.

  • Executive-level written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting strategy, risk, and adoption outcomes to senior leadership.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and change; able to bring structure and focus to evolving environments.

  • Experience working in Agile or hybrid delivery models from a business stakeholder role (backlog input, UAT, sprint reviews).
