Job description

O'Hagan Meyer is looking for an organized and professional Legal Assistant to join our law firm. This individual will provide vital assistance to a team of attorneys by handling case-related tasks, preparing a variety of legal documentation, and managing case files. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proficient in legal terminology, and understands the electronic filing procedures in State and Federal Courts. This will be full-time, in-office position with the possibility of transitioning into a hybrid work week.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive litigation support to multiple attorneys, managing heavy and complex caseloads.
  • Prepare, revise, proofread, and format pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and correspondence in compliance with applicable court rules.
  • Prepare court filings for state, federal and appellate courts, including electronic and traditional filings.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements. Prepare, submit, and track travel and expense reimbursements.
  • Assist with discovery and trial support, including document production, exhibit preparation, and court filings. Support scanning, photocopying, and binder preparation as needed.
  • Create and maintain filing systems and databases in compliance with office policies to ensure accurate and efficient data retrieval.
  • Maintain and monitor litigation calendars, including deadlines, hearings, depositions, and trial dates
  • Maintain attorney schedules and calendars
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Position is full-time, M-F with the possibility of some overtime. After 90 days of training, employees may be eligible for hybrid work. Salary based on experience and included exceptional benefit package.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree, Paralegal Certificate or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of prior work experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, or related role in litigation.
  • Prior experience in ERISA defense litigation
  • Strong knowledge of State and Federal court rules and procedures.
  • Advanced Word skills, including creating tables, bookmarking, and styling documents.
  • Strong proofreading and editing abilities, with a focus on accuracy and grammar.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with attorneys and co-workers.
  • Class Action and trial experience is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat, Odyssey, Pacer and ECF Filing Systems.
  • Previous iManage experience preferred but not required.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work independently but also as part of a team.
