OverviewU.S. Engineering Holdings is seeking a Corporate Counsel to join its Legal & Risk Management Department and work directly with the General Counsel. This role will provide day-to-day legal support across the company's subsidiaries, with a primary focus on contract review, corporate filings, and claims-related matters (workers' compensation and insurance). This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney early in their career who wants hands-on, high-volume exposure to construction law, risk management, and corporate practice inside a growing organization.

Responsibilities

  • Review, draft, and redline commercial construction contracts, subcontracts, and related agreements (AIA, Consensus Docs, and custom forms), flagging risk and negotiating terms alongside the General Counsel.
  • Prepare, file, and maintain corporate filings and entity records across U.S. Engineering's subsidiaries.
  • Support workers' compensation claims, including coordination with adjusters, claims tracking, and internal reporting.
  • Assist with general liability, property, and other insurance claims, including coverage analysis and claims correspondence.
  • Provide legal support on employment matters as needed, in coordination with HR and the General Counsel.
  • Help track and manage project-level legal risk, including claims, change orders, and disputes on active construction projects.
  • Assist with internal legal training materials and compliance initiatives for project teams and leadership.
  • Perform legal research and prepare memos on contract, insurance, and construction law issues as assigned.

RequirementsEducation:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school; active license to practice law in Missouri (or eligibility for reciprocity/admission).

Experience:
  • 2–5 years of relevant legal experience, in a law firm, corporate legal department, or construction/insurance setting.
  • Strong contract drafting and review skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters independently and prioritize under deadline pressure.
  • Clear, practical communication style — comfortable working directly with non-lawyer business partners (PMs, PEs, Directors).

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Knowledge of contract law and commercial construction contracting principles.
  • Knowledge of corporate governance, entity management, and regulatory filing requirements.
  • Knowledge of workers' compensation, general liability, and insurance claims processes.
  • Knowledge of employment law principles and legal compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of construction industry practices, project delivery methods, and risk allocation.
  • Knowledge of legal research methods and legal writing standards.
  • Strong legal drafting, contract review, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Benefits and Compensation:
  • The range for this position has been established at $100K to $142K salary and is U.S. Engineering good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of the posting. The compensation offered to the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
  • Your total compensation will go beyond the number on your paycheck. Team members are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance as well as paid time off. An industry-leading benefits package, including health, dental, and vision plans, matching retirement contributions, and matching 529 contributions all add to your bottom line.
