Position Summary
The Legal Assistant / Paralegal supports DCC Propane's legal, compliance, risk management, and corporate governance functions. This role provides legal and administrative assistance related to commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, litigation management, corporate records, insurance matters, employment issues, and operational legal support within the propane and energy industry. The position works closely with internal departments, outside counsel, regulatory agencies, customers, vendors, and business stakeholders to ensure legal and compliance obligations are met.
Core Duties/Key Responsibilities
Contract Administration - Draft, review, revise, and manage a variety of commercial agreements, including:
Customer service agreements
Propane supply agreements
Vendor and supplier contracts
Non-disclosure agreements (NDAs)
Equipment lease agreements
Transportation and logistics agreements
Maintain contract management systems and contract databases. Track contract renewals, amendments and expiration dates and coordinate contract approvals and execution process.
Regulatory Compliance & Support - Assist with compliance related to federal, state, and local regulations affecting propane distribution, transportation, storage, and safety operations. Monitor regulatory updates and maintain compliance documentation. Support responses to audits, inspections, and regulatory inquiries. Maintain records related to permits, licenses, and certifications.
Litigation & Claims Management - Coordinate with outside counsel regarding litigation, disputes, and claims. Manage legal holds and document collection efforts. Track litigation deadlines, case status updates, and legal expenses. Assist with insurance claims, accident investigations, and risk management matters.
Employment & Labor Support - Support employment-related legal matters, including policy reviews, investigations, and compliance initiatives. Assist with documentation related to personnel issues and employment claims. Coordinate with Human Resources on legal and compliance projects.
Risk Management - Assist in maintaining insurance records and certificates. Support risk assessment and mitigation initiatives. Monitor and track incident reports and claims documentation.
Position Qualifications
Experience/Education
Required Education: Associate degree, Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree and Certification of Paralegal (CP) preferred.
Required Work Experience:
3+ years of legal assistant or paralegal experience, preferably in-house or within a regulated industry.
Experience supporting energy, propane, utilities, transportation, manufacturing, or industrial operations.
Familiarity with regulatory compliance and safety-related legal requirements.
Experience with contract lifecycle management software.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Microsoft Applications: Extremely proficient (in particular, Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Additional Technology: Proficiency with legal document management systems.
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required.
Additional Skills & Competencies:
Familiarity with regulatory compliance and safety-related legal requirements.
