Job description

Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks a Human Resources Coordinator. Founded in 1924, our non-profit law firm represents low-income people in a variety of civil legal matters, including family, housing, consumer, public benefits, education, and health law in a five-county service area (Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett). Legal Aid employs over 144 staff and operates five offices and numerous units, programs, and projects throughout its service area.  Our clients and their legal issues are diverse and numerous. Reporting to the Human Resources Director, the Human Resources Coordinator will work to advance and support the needs of the staff and program as we work with our clients.

Responsibilities: 
  • Talent Acquisition and Onboarding:
    • Assist with the recruitment and Applicant Tracking System (ATS) processes, including posting job openings, screening applications, scheduling, and conducting interviews.
    • Coordinate and conduct new hire orientation sessions, ensuring a positive onboarding experience.
  • Personnel File Management: 
    • Process real-time employee data updates in the Human Resources Information System (Paylocity), including title changes, compensation adjustments, role transfers, and personal detail changes, ensuring data integrity.
    • Manage the transition of historical physical and Google Drive files into Paylocity to optimize data accessibility and security. 
  • HRIS Management:
    • Act as the lead point of contact for the HRIS vendor, managing platform requests, technical support, and feature rollouts. 
    • Extract, build, and analyze routine and custom HR reports to track headcount, retention, EEO data, and lifecycle changes. 
  • Benefits Administration:
    • Manage new hire benefits enrollment, employee changes, and termination of benefits.
    • Assist with the annual benefits open enrollment process.
  • HR Email Inbox Management: 
    • Manage the central HR inbox and serve as the first point of contact for employees.
    • Deliver exceptional employee experience by resolving daily staff requests, escalate complex issues to the HR Director when appropriate, and maintain a high standard of service and confidentiality. 
  • Training and Development:
    • Design, update, and facilitate engaging staff training and orientation sessions. 
    • Actively participate in staff-led committees to align HR strategies with employee needs.
  • Offboarding:
    • Schedule exit interviews, draft Department of Labor separation and exit letters, and communicate offboarding processes to managers to ensure smooth team transitions. 
    • Coordinate cross-functionally with IT, Operations, and Finance to ensure timely equipment return, access revocation, and final payroll processing. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:  
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience as an administrator within HRIS systems, Paylocity experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in using Excel and Google spreadsheets.
  • Proficiency in using Canva, PowerPoint, and Google Slides. 
  • A proactive, solution-oriented mindset 
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally and empathetically with employees at all levels.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant human resources experience
  • Experience in a nonprofit or legal services environment is preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to public service and previous work with low-income people, with an appreciation for diversity, is strongly preferred 
  • National HR certifications (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) are preferred.
Salary and Benefits: 
  • This position offers a salary of $58,000 but may vary (up or down) depending on work experience. Salaries are reviewed annually and may be adjusted based on available funding.
  • Generous fringe benefits, including 16 paid holidays in 2026, 6 weeks of paid time off (accruing at 2.5 days per month), and 6 weeks of parental leave (12 weeks after one year).
  • Individual health insurance, including optional dental and vision coverage, with partial payment for dependent health insurance.

  • Salary reduction option for a flexible spending account.
  • Educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a set off of other loan reimbursement amounts).
  • Voluntary tax-sheltered annuity with a 3% match.
  • This position may be eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness through the U.S. Department of Education.
  • A hybrid work schedule that allows staff to work 2 days remotely, subject to management approval.
