We are looking for a Legal Assistant to support a government legal team in Atlanta, Georgia. This contract position offers the opportunity to contribute to daily legal and administrative operations by keeping case materials organized, coordinating schedules, and assisting with court-related filings and departmental communications. The ideal candidate is highly organized, comfortable managing multiple priorities, and able to provide dependable support in a legal environment.
Responsibilities:
• Open and organize new legal matters, ensuring files are established accurately and maintained in accordance with department procedures.
• Maintain physical and electronic records by updating document indexes, managing correspondence, and preserving transactional materials within the case management system.
• Prepare reports, presentation materials, meeting agendas, and other administrative documents to support attorneys and legal staff.
• File legal documents with courts in both paper and electronic formats while monitoring submission requirements and deadlines.
• Coordinate calendars for meetings, depositions, and conference rooms to support efficient daily operations.
• Provide administrative coverage for reception activities when needed, including greeting visitors and directing inquiries appropriately.
• Handle incoming and outgoing mail by collecting, sorting, and distributing materials in a timely manner.
• Arrange business travel, assist with expense documentation, and support reimbursement or reconciliation processes.
• Work with legal operations and vendors to help process invoices and track payment status through designated systems.
• Support service-of-process procedures and assist with copy room oversight and other duties assigned by leadership.• Prior experience in a legal assistant, legal administrative, or comparable office support role.
• Ability to manage court filings, legal documentation, and records with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple assignments and deadlines effectively.
• Proficiency in preparing reports, presentations, agendas, and general business correspondence.
• Experience coordinating meetings, schedules, travel arrangements, and administrative logistics.
• Familiarity with municipal environments or public sector operations is preferred.
• Knowledge of legislative issues research or the ability to support research-related legal work.
• Strong communication skills and professionalism when supporting staff, vendors, courts, and visitors.
