Qualifications

Purpose & Scope:

Serve as Senior Vice President/Chief Legal Officer to Virginia Hospital Center and its affiliated entities as needed. Duties include drafting, negotiation and management of various types of contracts, including physician employment agreements, independent contractor agreements, teaching and other administrative stipend arrangements, leases and licenses, confidentiality and business associate agreements, student affiliations, information services agreements, and vendor services agreements; provide legal advice and guidance on regulatory matters such as tax-exemption, Stark Law, Anti-kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Fraud and Abuse, Department of Health, the Joint Commission, HIPAA and EMTALA; assist with corporate governance issues including review and revision of bylaws and corporate documents; deal with matters relating to real estate, zoning and leasing; attend Board-level and other committee meetings; provide counsel on medical staff matters (disruptive physicians, chain of command, peer review, disciplinary matters, credentialing and privileging, and medical staff investigations); assist with legal issues relating to patient care (substitute decision-making, refusal of care, guardianships); oversee commercial litigation; and coordinate matters with outside counsel.

Education:

Doctorate in law is required.

Experience:

Seven years of healthcare law is required.

Experience in healthcare compliance, corporate law, and contracting is required.

Certification/Licensure:

License to practice law is required.

Commonwealth of Virginia license is preferred.
