Goldberg Segalla is a national civil litigation law firm that represents major national and regional companies and insurance carriers in all aspects of business counseling, risk assessment and dispute resolution including representation in various types of claims, controversies and litigation involving personal and other injuries, property damage, contract disputes and business torts. While our Am Law 200 and Chambers ranked firm employs more than 1,000 people, we operate as one tight-knit and highly collaborative team.
Goldberg Segalla seeks a highly motivated and organized individual to join its team as a Legal Assistant supporting litigators that have a high volume of work at our Princeton, NJ location. This individual will provide administrative and secretarial support to assigned attorneys and backup coverage to other attorneys as requested. Assist with administrative tasks as it relates to the specific office and attorneys.   
This role is eligible to be hybrid after on-site training is complete.
KEY QUALITIES:
  • Communication Skills: Ability to document and present legal research and related information to supervising attorney(s) promptly.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using computers for legal research, and other legal tasks. Familiarity with software (e.g., Microsoft Suite) for organizing and maintaining legal documents.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to develop good relationships with clients and professionals, making clients comfortable sharing personal case information. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Organizational Skills: Capable of managing multiple cases in a fast-paced environment with changing deadlines. Excellent organizational skills are essential.
  • Research Skills: Strong research and investigative skills for conducting legal research on relevant laws, regulations, and articles.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 
  • Ability to handle pressure, interruptions and multiple projects with frequently changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Recognize the need for confidentiality of information and to maintain such confidence when responding to internal or external inquiries.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Perform administrative duties, including but not limited to proofreading and editing all materials for extreme accuracy and clarity.
  • Communicate with clients to gather information, provide updates, and coordinate meetings. Maintain professionalism in all interactions.
  • Assist in managing case files, track deadlines, and ensure compliance with court requirements.
  • Support attorneys during trials and hearings as needed.
  • E-filing knowledge in preparation to file all types of discovery requests, responses to opposing counsel, and motions.
  • Knowledge of state and federal e-filing, legal documents and terminology, and maintain file system.
  • Manage calendars, schedule meetings, and coordinate travel arrangements (if applicable).
  • Assist with attorney time entries, pre-bills, budgets, check requests, and deadlines related to invoicing.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and paralegals on the completion of non-billable tasks
  • Monitor recertification needs with attorney access/state requirements, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES & EXPERIENCE:        
  • Minimum of 2 years of Litigation experience as a Legal Assistant.
  • Certified Notary preferred.
  • Clear communication and information exchange in English. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. 
  • Ability to observe and assess data and documents in printed form and on computer screens 
  • Willingness to work beyond normal hours. 
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work independently within general guidelines and minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to respond and maintain confidentiality of information or adversarial inquiries.
