Legal Assistant – Bankruptcy, Restructuring & Litigation


Location: Newark, NJ (100% In-Office)

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Position Type: Contract


Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, proactive Legal Assistant to join a collaborative administrative team supporting our Bankruptcy, Restructuring & Litigation Group in Newark, NJ.


This is a fast-paced, hands-on role working directly alongside our attorneys and three dedicated Legal Assistants. The ideal candidate can hit the ground running, manage walk-up attorney requests efficiently, and provide reliable coverage across daily legal administrative workflows.


Key Responsibilities

  • Attorney & Group Support: Handle direct walk-up requests, turn around handwritten edits, prepare formal correspondence, and process daily mailings.
  • Administrative Management: Coordinate travel arrangements, process expense reimbursements, manage attorney calendars, and field incoming calls.
  • Workflow & Team Collaboration: Partner closely with the core Legal Assistant team to back up workloads and assist with general office priorities as needed.
  • Document & Data Handling: Maintain electronic legal files, track time entries, and manage legal administrative systems.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Prior experience as a Legal Assistant or Legal Secretary, preferably supporting Bankruptcy, Restructuring, or Litigation practices.
  • On-Site Presence: Must be able to work fully in-office in Newark, NJ (Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM).
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience or familiarity with legal software and tools, including:
    • Document/Email Management: iManage, Microsoft Outlook
    • Time & Intake: Intapp Open, Intapp Time, ProForma Tracker
    • Expenses: Emburse (or similar platforms like Chrome River)
  • Core Skills: Exceptional organizational abilities, sharp attention to detail, strong multi-tasking skills, and a collaborative, team-first attitude.
