Cascata Golf Club

Nestled amongst the spectacular red rock mountains above the Las Vegas Valley is Cascata Golf Club. Designed by Rees Jones and opened for play in 1999, the course is defined by dramatic elevation changes, lush fairways, and panoramic views of the River Mountain Range.

Position Overview

The Assistant Superintendent will work directly with the Golf Course Superintendent on the day-to-day operations of the golf course maintenance team. This position will train and supervise the crew, manage golf course conditions, and be the key employee in assisting the Superintendent.

Essential Functions

  • Support the Superintendent in managing all aspects of the golf course
  • Attend club staff meetings on an at least a once-a-month basis and represent the Agronomy Team when the Superintendent is unavailable 
  • Assist the Superintendent with preparing and managing the annual budget
  • Assist the Superintendent with the club's annual Agronomy Plan
  • Lead the environmental and sustainability efforts for the golf course maintenance department
  • Working with the Superintendent assist in developing short and long-range goals to ensure efficient maintenance and operation of the golf course
  • In the absence of the Superintendent becomes the leader of the department.
  • Perform calibration and application of pesticides and fertilizers
  • Operate and troubleshoot the course irrigation system
  • Assist in managing employees, including scheduling and supervising safe equipment usage, in the Superintendent’s absence
  • Apply cultural practices to greens, tees, and fairways
  • Implement agronomic best practices for course optimization
  • Assist in the execution of an environmental plan that aligns with the facility’s goals and best management practices for land, water, wildlife and natural resource conservation.
  • Support overall maintenance plans for the golf course
  • Keep detailed records of course management history and future plans
  • Scout and manage turf pests
  • Assist with equipment upkeep and repairs
  • Track growing degree days, clipping volumes, and weather models through the growing season
  • Monitor and manage moisture levels in areas of play
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or needs of the club

Requirements

  • At least 3+ years’ experience in golf course operations, preferably at a resort golf facility
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to coordinate with other club departments for events, scheduling, and other club priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel

In addition, the ideal candidate will be or have:

  • A degree or certificate in Turf Management
  • Enthusiastic about enabling the game of golf through course management
  • Experience leading a team in the golf environment

Physical Demands

  • Ability to visually inspect golf course
  • Ability to perform moderate physical work, may be required to lift 100 lbs. occasionally, up to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 20 lbs. constantly, performing such activities as bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, and grasping for up to five hours without sitting

Work Environment

This position will be regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions in performing the duties of the job.
