Job description

We create possibilities that move life and commerce forward

Welcome to Manhattan. Every day, our supply chain commerce technology connects two billion people to 20 billion consumer choices. In the warehouse, on the road and in the store, we make what was once impossible, possible. If you want to tackle complex problems and redefine markets, you've come to the right place.

The Manager, Learning Experience Design leads a team responsible for creating high-quality learning experiences and content that enable learners to successfully adopt and apply products, systems, and business processes.

This role provides leadership across learning strategy, instructional design, content operations, and team development while remaining actively engaged in the design and development of high-impact learning solutions. The Manager partners closely with stakeholders across the business to identify performance needs, establish learning priorities, and deliver scalable learning experiences that drive measurable business outcomes.

Success in this role requires balancing strategic thinking with execution, developing team capability, improving operational effectiveness, and continuously evolving learning practices through innovation, data-informed decision-making, and responsible use of AI.

Key Responsibilities

Learning Experience Design & Content Development

  • Design and develop engaging learning solutions across multiple delivery formats, including instructor-led training, eLearning, videos, job aids, performance support materials, guides, and other enablement assets.
  • Personally lead the design and development of complex, high-priority, or high-visibility learning initiatives.
  • Translate complex technical concepts and business processes into learner-centered experiences that improve performance.
  • Apply adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, accessibility standards, and user experience best practices throughout the design process.
  • Evaluate emerging learning technologies and instructional approaches to continuously improve learner experience and scalability.

Learning Strategy & Business Consulting

  • Partner with business leaders, product teams, subject matter experts, and stakeholders to understand business objectives and performance challenges.
  • Consult with stakeholders to identify the most effective learning and enablement solutions, recommending alternatives when training is not the appropriate intervention.
  • Define learning approaches that balance learner needs, business priorities, operational constraints, and long-term scalability.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives that strengthen organizational learning capabilities and learner experience.

People Leadership & Capability Development

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of Learning Experience Designers while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Build team capability across instructional design, consulting, content development, learning technologies, AI, accessibility, and emerging digital learning practices.
  • Provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance management while supporting career growth and professional development.
  • Establish clear expectations and promote consistent application of design standards, templates, and best practices.

Learning Design Practice & Content Operations

  • Establish and continuously evolve instructional design standards, methodologies, templates, and governance practices that improve quality and consistency across learning experiences.
  • Oversee content operations, including portfolio planning, intake, prioritization, resource allocation, review processes, publishing, maintenance, and lifecycle management.
  • Ensure learning assets remain accurate, current, accessible, and aligned with changing business and product needs.
  • Drive continuous improvement of workflows that increase efficiency while maintaining exceptional quality.

Learning Effectiveness & Continuous Improvement

  • Define success measures for learning initiatives and evaluate effectiveness using learner feedback, assessment results, operational metrics, and business performance indicators.
  • Analyze learning data to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend enhancements that increase learner engagement and business impact.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen instructional quality, operational efficiency, and overall learner experience.

AI & Innovation

  • Leverage AI tools responsibly to improve efficiency, consistency, and quality throughout the learning design and content development lifecycle.
  • Apply AI to support activities such as research, drafting, editing, content adaptation, summarization, scripting, localization, and quality assurance.
  • Evaluate emerging AI capabilities and identify opportunities to responsibly integrate new technologies into learning workflows.
  • Coach and enable team members to effectively use AI while maintaining accuracy, accessibility, instructional quality, and brand standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning Technologies, Communications, Business, English, or a related field.
  • Experience leading instructional design, learning experience design, content development, or enablement teams.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing learning solutions across multiple delivery formats.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and learning technologies.
  • Experience managing portfolios, project intake, prioritization, and resource planning.
  • Experience establishing design standards, improving operational processes, and scaling content development practices.
  • Strong coaching, leadership, and performance management skills.
  • Experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders, including Product, Engineering, Operations, and business leaders.
  • Experience using learning analytics and business metrics to evaluate learning effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled content development tools and the ability to apply them responsibly to improve productivity and quality.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced learning leader who enjoys developing people as much as designing exceptional learning experiences. They are equally comfortable influencing strategy, partnering with business leaders, improving operational processes, and personally leading the design of complex learning initiatives. They bring a strong customer mindset, embrace innovation, leverage data to make decisions, and continuously seek opportunities to improve the effectiveness, scalability, and impact of learning.
