Job description

The Operations Supervisor is a critical execution leader within the service center, ensuring daily dock, freight, and operational activities run with precision, safety, and financial discipline. This role exists to translate network strategy into real-world execution-balancing throughput, cost control, service quality, and compliance in a fast-paced LTL environment.
As Roadrunner continues to scale its Smart Network, this position plays a key role in protecting shipment integrity, optimizing load flow, and maintaining operational consistency across linehaul and local delivery functions. Success in this role means running a clean, compliant, and high-performing dock, delivering reliable service outcomes, and contributing directly to terminal profitability and network efficiency. What you'll do1. Execute dock and terminal operations with precision
  • Oversee daily dock operations including load planning, freight handling, and linehaul coordination
  • Ensure freight is processed accurately with proper routing, documentation, and data entry
  • Maintain high standards for load quality, minimizing damages, OS&D incidents, and rehandling
  • Step into operational roles-including forklift operations-when needed to maintain continuity
2. Optimize service center performance and cost control
  • Monitor daily operating costs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and margin performance
  • Support budget attainment through effective labor utilization, contractor coordination, and workflow management
  • Ensure billing, rating, payroll, and administrative processes are completed accurately and on time
3. Drive safety, compliance, and risk management
  • Maintain a safe and compliant work environment aligned with DOT, OSHA, and hazardous materials standards
  • Support contractor compliance including equipment standards, qualification requirements, and operational procedures
  • Enforce freight security protocols and ensure adherence to company and regulatory policies
4. Lead and develop frontline teams
  • Supervise, coach, and direct service center personnel with clear expectations and accountability
  • Provide real-time feedback, performance management, and development support
  • Foster a culture of ownership, teamwork, and operational excellence through visible leadership
5. Coordinate across network stakeholders
  • Partner with linehaul contractors, drivers, and internal teams to ensure seamless freight movement
  • Communicate effectively with corporate teams, customers, and external partners
  • Resolve operational issues quickly, applying sound judgment in dynamic, variable conditions
What you bring
  • Bachelor's degree or 1-2 years of relevant operations or logistics experience (or equivalent combination)
  • Experience in transportation, LTL, warehouse, or service center operations preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and evaluate team members
  • Strong working knowledge of safety protocols, compliance standards, and hazardous materials handling (Hazmat certification preferred)
  • Forklift certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Solid analytical and mathematical skills with the ability to interpret operational and financial data
  • Proficiency in PC applications (email, spreadsheets, database systems); AS/400 experience preferred
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage across all levels of the organization
  • Proven ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving capability in situations with limited standardization
How you operate
  • You think in systems, not tasks-understanding how decisions impact network performance
  • You own outcomes, not activity-delivering measurable results under pressure
  • You move decisively while maintaining control and operational discipline
  • You lead from the front-modeling accountability, work ethic, and safety standards
  • You communicate clearly-ensuring alignment across teams, contractors, and stakeholders
  • You balance speed and accuracy-protecting both service and profitability
  • You adapt quickly-navigating ambiguity and shifting priorities with confidence
