Job Summary
The Operations Manager, Solar is responsible for overseeing the performance, reliability, and safety of a portfolio of solar photovoltaic (PV) assets across the Northeast U.S. and Ontario, Canada.
This role leads field execution through internal technicians and third-party O&M providers, ensuring assets meet or exceed performance targets while maintaining compliance with safety, regulatory, and company standards. The Operations Manager plays a critical role in maximizing asset value through performance optimization, issue resolution, and disciplined cost management.
Key Responsibilities
  • Operations & Performance Management
    • Oversee day-to-day operations of assigned solar assets to ensure optimal generation performance, availability, and reliability
    • Monitor performance data, identify underperformance trends, and lead root cause analysis and corrective actions
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance asset efficiency and output
    • Lead or support large-scale remediation and repowering efforts
  • Field Leadership & Execution
    • Manage and provide direction to solar technicians and third-party O&M providers
    • Ensure high-quality execution of preventative and corrective maintenance programs
    • Conduct site visits to assess asset condition, operational performance, and safety compliance
    • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Champion a strong safety culture aligned with HSSE standards
    • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, environmental, and interconnection requirements
    • Support the development and continuous improvement of operating and safety procedures
  • Financial & Vendor Management
    • Support development and management of operating (OPEX) and capital (CAPEX) budgets
    • Track and manage operating expenses, identifying cost optimization opportunities
    • Oversee vendor performance and support procurement and contract management activities
  • Stakeholder Management & Reporting
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with Asset Management, Engineering, and other internal teams
    • Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including utilities, ISOs, landowners, and regulators
    • Prepare and deliver operational performance reports and insights to leadership

Qualifications
  • Experience
    • 5+ years of experience in solar operations and maintenance (utility or commercial scale)
    • 5+ years of experience managing field teams or O&M vendors
    • Experience overseeing multiple sites or a portfolio of assets preferred
  • Technical Skills
    • Strong understanding of solar PV systems, performance metrics, and maintenance practices
    • Experience with SCADA/DAS/monitoring platforms (e.g., AlsoEnergy, Power Factors, Bazefield)
    • Familiarity with medium voltage systems and interconnection requirements preferred
  • Education & Certifications
    • Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field, or equivalent experience
    • Electrician license preferred
  • Other Requirements
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to lead teams both remotely and in the field
    • Willingness to travel 30-50% to project sites

Compensation: $115,000 - $136,000 USD; bonus eligible
