The Day Services Learning Operations Specialist is responsible for the overall training and retraining of all staff across downstate Day Services programs and other Programs in the future. Key duties include planning and implementing orientation, ongoing training, documentation, and mentoring, in accordance with OPWDD regulations and agency standards. This role also supports managers, conducts specialized and professional development training, and serves as a resource for staff across regions.


  • Facilitate orientation sessions for new hires, ensuring they understand organizational policies, procedures, and best practices. Documents the progress of new hires while in orientation including time and attendance, participation, and demeanor. Communicates with HR and supervisors throughout the orientation process.
  • Provide trainings specific for Managers and Assistant Managers in regards to the implementation of day service practices and procedures along with leadership and professional development. · Provides ongoing training and re-cert training to all staff. · Maintain detailed training records and documentation to track staff progress and compliance. ·
  • Develop and maintain an annual orientation and recertification training calendar for downstate.
  • Collaborate with management and direct support staff to identify training needs and address areas for improvement.
  • Attend the Day Services Leadership and Admin meetings. · Attend Bi- Weekly meetings with the Deputy Director of Learning Operations.
  • Check in with the Director of Day Services on a regular basis.
  • Assists in the development of training curriculum and integrating into the agency curriculum.
  • Assists in maintaining and updating training curriculum as needed in response to regulation of changes and agency needs.
  • Provides quality, professional training and instruction ensuring sensitivity for unique and diverse levels of experience and education and recognizing differing cultural backgrounds. Facilitate training sessions using a variety of teaching methods to engage adult learners.
  • Acts as a representative of the training department/day services on agency committees and in all meetings, as appointed. · Remains current on best practices in the field of developmental disabilities, adult learning, and instructional design.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Requirements:
  • Three years of Direct Service with IDD population, with strong knowledge of developmental disabilities and the principles of person-centered support.
  • Good organizational and presentation skills, as well as excellent computer skills including proficiency in
  • Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and leadership skills.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Within three months of hire become certified as a CPR/BFA instructor.
  • Within one year of hire become certified as a Defensive Driving instructor.
