Ergon Refining, Inc., in Vicksburg is currently looking for Learning and Development Specialist. The Learning and Development Specialist designs, conducts, and organizes employee education and development programs to support each team and employee. The L&D Specialist partners with department leaders and front-line employees to develop workforce competencies, knowledge, skills, and abilities to meet regulatory requirements and achieve organizational strategy. This position is instrumental in the purposeful growth and continuous improvement of our people and company.

Learning and Development Specialist Duties:

  • Support and serve all Ergon Refining, Inc. employees by fostering purposeful growth, promoting a culture of care, facilitating continual improvement, and being a passionate advocate for organizational betterment.

  • Work with assigned teams to create and maintain a shared vision, shared values, and an environment where employees can be fully involved in achieving departmental and company goals or objectives.

  • Promote the advancement of our employee education and development programs, processes, and systems to foster purposeful growth.

  • Coordinate, facilitate and lead activities related to the education and development of both new-hire and existing employees.

  • Assess learning and development strengths and weaknesses through surveys, audits, interviews, focus groups, and communication with managers, front-line employees, instructors, etc.

  • Develop unique training programs to fulfill specific employee needs to ensure regulatory compliance and maintain or improve job skills and qualifications to meet current and future needs and career paths.

  • Update and maintain new employee onboarding and ongoing training programs, such as the annual schedule and content.

  • Create, organize, plan, and present various forms of educational courses and employee development activities such as onboarding, orientation, and skills training.

  • Present learning and development programs using various forms and formats including group discussion, lecture, simulation, CBT, and video.

  • Evaluate learner competency and skill proficiency.

  • Create and/or acquire training procedure manuals, guides, assessments, course materials, props, and other development aids.

  • Maintain curricula assignments, records of training and development activities, attendance, results of tests and assessments, and retraining requirements as administrator of the Learning Management System (LMS).

  • Assist assigned departments in identifying and implementing all learning and development needs to improve employee knowledge, skills, and performance.

  • Maintain knowledge of the latest trends in learning and development.

  • Assist in the development, maintenance and analysis of various key performance indicators that drive continuous improvement of the site's learning and development programs, processes, and systems.

  • Develop and support employee mentors and instructors for various departments.

  • Assist in L&D vendor and trainer selection. Establish and maintain relationships with vendors and L&D community partners and coordinate activities.

  • Provide support to the Learning and Development Supervisor by completing additional learning and development tasks or duties as required.

Learning and Development Specialist Requirements:

  • High levels of Trust, Humility, Character, Integrity, Resolve, and Respect.

  • Requires a self-motivated person that pays attention to details with excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent. BA or BS degree in an applicable field, preferred or five years of experience at a refining or chemical processing facility with significant technical knowledge and skills in operations or maintenance.

  • Three years of experience in an education-related position is desirable.

  • Requires excellent communication skills, including written, verbal and non-verbal.

  • Able to design and implement effective training and development.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word and Excel) and related program software. Capable of learning other software tools (Learning Management System, training authoring tools, simulation tools, etc.).

  • Organized and capable of planning, scheduling and prioritizing learning and development activities.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective team dynamics and relationships with others.
