Job Summary

The Learning Management (System) Specialist is responsible for supporting the design, delivery, and evolution of a comprehensive learning strategy that serves a geographically dispersed workforce across five Canadian provinces and Michigan. This role contributes to building organizational capability, enhancing employee performance, and supporting a strong safety and compliance culture within a waste and recycling environment.

A key focus of this role is assisting with the research, selection, implementation, and enterprise-wide rollout of a Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring it meets operational, regulatory, and employee development needs.

Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, this role works in close collaboration with the HR Project Specialist and the Health & Safety team to align learning initiatives with enterprise priorities, regulatory requirements, and operational needs.

Position Description

Learning Strategy, Design & AI-Enabled Content Creation

  • Support the development and execution of learning and development initiatives aligned with business goals and workforce needs.
  • Assist in identifying skills gaps and training priorities across operations, corporate functions, and leadership teams.
  • Design, develop, and enhance engaging learning content using AI-enabled tools, including e-learning modules, instructor-led materials, videos, simulations, and blended learning solutions.
  •  Apply adult learning principles and instructional design best practices to support effective, scalable programs.
  •  Ensure consistency, quality, and branding across all learning materials.
  •  Partner with HR, Health & Safety, and operational leaders to ensure training supports regulatory compliance and operational excellence. 

LMS Support & Implementation

  • Assist with the research, evaluation, and implementation of a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Collaborate with the HR Project Specialist to support project planning, timelines, and implementation milestones.
  •  Gather requirements and feedback from cross-functional stakeholders, including Health & Safety.
  •  Support vendor selection, system configuration, testing, and rollout in collaboration with IT and external vendors.
  •  Assist with communication, training, and adoption strategies for the LMS.

Program Delivery & Operations

  • Support the administration and continuous improvement of the LMS post-implementation.
  • Maintain and update all training content within the LMS, leveraging AI tools to improve efficiency, personalization, and engagement.
  •  Partner closely with the Health & Safety team to ensure compliance training (e.g., safety, environmental regulations) is current, accessible, and effectively tracked.
  • Monitor training completion, effectiveness, and ROI through reporting and analytics.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Work with HR, Operations, the HR Project Specialist, and Health & Safety to align learning initiatives with business priorities.
  • Support leaders in employee development and performance improvement efforts.
  •  Build strong relationships across geographically dispersed teams to ensure consistent learning experiences.
  • Assist with change management and communication strategies to promote learning initiatives and drive engagement. 

Skills & Qualifications 

  • Degree or Diploma in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in Learning & Development, preferably in a multi-site or industrial environment 
  • Proven expertise in AI-enabled learning and content creation, including leveraging AI tools to design and develop scalable learning programs 
  • Proven experience leading the implementation or administration of a Learning Management System (LMS) 
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design 
  • Experience supporting compliance and safety training in regulated industries (e.g., waste management, construction, manufacturing) is an asset 
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills
