About the Role
  • We are seeking an Instructional Designer with strong foundational ID skills and hands-on video production experience to support training across a utilities environment.
  • This role is ideal for an early-career instructional designer (23 years of experience) who is equally comfortable designing learning experiences and getting behind the camera to produce engaging, high-quality video-based training.
  • You will design, develop, and maintain learning solutions that support operational, technical, safety, and customer-focused training, with a strong emphasis on video as a key delivery method.
  • Remote with occasional in person depending on video shoots.

Skills:
  • Core Instructional Design Skills
  • Apply instructional design principles and adult learning theory to create effective, engaging learning solutions
  • Partner with subject matter experts (SMEs) to analyze learning needs and translate complex utility concepts into clear, learner-centered content

Design and develop training deliverables, including:
  • Instructor-led and virtual instructor-led training (ILT/VILT)
  • E-learning modules
  • Microlearning assets
  • Video-based learning solutions
  • Create storyboards, scripts, and learning outlines aligned to performance objectives
  • Maintain and update existing learning materials to ensure accuracy, consistency, and relevance
  • Ensure learning solutions meet accessibility, usability, and quality standards
  • Video Production (Pre‑Production, Production & Post‑Production)

Lead video pre-production activities, including:
  • Writing video scripts and interview questions
  • Creating shot lists and production plans
  • Coordinating schedules, locations, and SMEs

Set up and conduct video shoots, including:
  • Camera, lighting, and basic audio setup
  • Coaching on-screen participants as needed

Perform post-production editing, including:
  • Syncing audio and video
  • Trimming and cutting footage
  • Adding titles, lower thirds, callouts, and simple animated elements
  • Incorporating graphics, screen recordings, or motion elements as appropriate
  • Optimize videos for different delivery platforms (LMS, intranet, mobile, etc.)
  • Follow brand, style, and quality standards for all video assets

Education:
  • 4 years of experience in instructional design, learning development, or a related field

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning Technologies, Communications, or a related discipline. Equivalent experience will be considered over formal degree.
  • Working knowledge of instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE or similar)
  • Experience developing learning content for adult learners in a corporate or technical environment
  • Hands-on experience with video production and editing
  • Toolkit
  • Instructional design and development tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline/Rise, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar)
  • Video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Camtasia, or similar)

Basic understanding of:
  • Camera operation
  • Lighting fundamentals
  • Audio recording best practices
  • Experience integrating video into Vimeo, e-learning, or blended learning solutions

Required for Consideration
  • A portfolio or selection of work samples showcasing video examples, e-Learning, and other training-based materials.
