Job description

Job: Business Development Associate
Location: Lenexa, KS

Supports business development efforts by assisting with market research, opportunity identification, capture planning, and pursuit preparation. Works alongside seller-doers, project managers, and business development leaders to build pipeline visibility and support strategic growth initiatives aligned with GBA A/E's strategic objectives.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None

Essential Functions:
  • Assist with market research, client intelligence gathering, and opportunity tracking to identify potential pursuits.
  • Support capture planning activities, including stakeholder mapping, pre-positioning efforts, and competitive intelligence.
  • Help maintain pipeline visibility in CRM, including opportunity tracking, pursuit status, and probability updates.
  • Coordinate with technical teams and marketing to support proposal preparation, pursuit materials, and qualifications packages.
  • Support Go/No-Go preparation, gathering relevant information for leadership decision making.
  • Attend industry events and client meetings to build networks and identify emerging opportunities.
  • Assist BD leaders and seller-doers and with pursuit logistics, follow-ups, and opportunity coordination.
  • Maintain CRM documentation and track BD activity and engagement metrics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, business administration, marketing or related field AND 1+ years of relevant experience OR equivalent level of education and experience.

Technical Skills & Abilities:
  • Develop relationship-building skills through networking, effective communication, and consistent follow-up with industry contacts, prospects, and partners.
  • Work collaboratively with business development leaders, technical staff, and marketing to support opportunity identification and pursuit activities.
  • Build foundational knowledge of GBA's services, markets, and industry drivers within the A/E sector.
  • Demonstrate developing organizational and problem-solving skills to support capture planning, pursuit coordination, and pipeline tracking.
  • Show initiative in learning market dynamics, identifying potential opportunities, and building confidence in early-stage client and industry interactions.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
  • Represent GBA professionally in all internal and external interactions, maintaining client-appropriate attire and presence consistent with company standards and the expectations of the environment.
  • Ability to work on computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

Travel:
  • Ability to travel as needed (10%-20%) including overnight stays for project site & field visits, conferences, training, and professional outings.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license and an insurable driving record under the company's insurance carrier requirements to operate or rent vehicles for business purposes.
