In this role, you will assist classroom teachers in implementing a daily program that fosters children's physical, cognitive, language, and social-emotional growth. What does a Teacher's Assistant do?                            

  • Assist the classroom teacher in implementing written lesson plans.
  • Assumes the role of the classroom teacher in the teacher's absence.
  • Attends staff meetings, in-service sessions dealing with childcare duties and trainings (i.e. child abuse and reporting procedures training, CPR, first aid, MAT, etc.).

Work Experience

To be successful as a Teacher's Assistant you'll need:

  • The Child Development Associate (C.D.A) credential. A combination of at least 12 college credit hours in Education and relevant childcare experience will also be considered.
  • An associate degree in early childhood education or related field is preferred.
  • At least one year of formal experience in childcare. Infant and toddler teacher assistants must have at least one year of specific experience or training in infant/toddler care.
  • Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 31 - 40 lbs.
