General Summary:

With a focus on maximizing student retention and success, the Senior Career and Professional Development Coordinator for Career Exploration, under supervision from the Associate Director, uses a student learning approach to provide career advising and coaching, as well as develop, plan, maintain and implement programming for students and alumni. This position coaches, advises and assists students and community members individually and in groups. Position requires a strong emphasis on career exploration, decision making, and college major selection. Provides consulting, program development and presentations for the WTAMU community. Services may be offered in-person and online as indicated. The normal work week is 40 hours per week from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Some evening and weekend work required.

Salary Range: $3,223 - $3,787 per month, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

Career Development Coaching

  • Assist students, and alumni, in developing career goals via career exploration and assessment, career tools and leveraging of resources using a plethora of career and educational programs and resources, and career plans with consideration of the students' interests, skills, and values.
  • Assist to identify and remediate students' perceptions of barriers to their success. The Career Coach understands the various ways students can leverage their experiences inside and outside of the classroom to prepare students to meet their personal aspirations while employing a philosophy of strengths-based and student-centered advising.
  • Administer and manages career exploration software, currently YouScience, and outreach.
  • Assists new and transfer students and their families during orientation regarding career exploration, and recommends resources as needed.
  • Provides career coaching to individuals and groups during all stages of career exploration and decision-making.
  • Manages various departmental and administrative aspects of career development and ensures that the department is current with emerging trends within the field of career development.
  • Intentionally plans, promotes, and executes strategies throughout the year to engage undeclared majors in career exploration, coaching and programming, working closely with academic advisers.
  • Administers appropriate assessments to students and alumni.
  • Responds to requests for information about career development and related resources.
  • Informs students about internships and the potential benefits and encourages students to use the information learned in career coaching to target appropriate internship opportunities.
  • Maintains knowledge of campus and community resources to facilitate referrals as necessary.
  • Develops new career exploration resources and evaluates existing and outside resources for students and alumni.

Career Advising

  • Assists students in their job searches through appointments related to interviewing, searching for a job, LinkedIn use, professionalism, and resume development.
  • Plans and assists with Career and Professional Development initiatives, events, and activities including job fairs, networking receptions, outreach activities, and other special events.
  • Developments, presents and facilitates workshops on career-related topics.
  • Interact with employers at events on campus.
  • Develops and maintains records and reports as needed for assessment, strategic planning and other needs.
  • Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University and job-specific online training courses.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two (2) years of related experience.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students; community, business and Industry leaders; and University personnel required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, public speaking, written communication, time management, and decision-making skills.
  • Outstanding organizational skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple demanding projects.
  • Excellent computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Knowledge of database applications and adept with video conferencing technologies.
  • Must be comfortable in and familiar with a team-centered, cross-trained, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Professional demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or other specialty related to job function.
  • Demonstrated successful career services training and development.
  • Experience in social work, counseling, case management, personal coaching, or related.
  • Experience in a university career or advising center or role.
  • Developing innovative programming and/or educational outreach.
  • Experience using assessment tools such as MBTI, YouScience, Clifton Strengths.
  • Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
  • Gallup- Certified Strengths Coach.
  • Experience in developing innovative programming and educational engagement opportunities.
  • Experience using assessment tools, including the MBTI, Strong Interest Inventory, and/or CliftonStrengths assessment.
