What is a leadership development internship?

A Leadership Development Internship is a structured program designed to help students or recent graduates develop key leadership skills and gain practical experience in a professional setting. These internships often include hands-on projects, mentorship, training sessions, and opportunities to lead teams or initiatives. The goal is to prepare participants for future leadership roles by enhancing their communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Many organizations use these internships as a pipeline to identify and cultivate future leaders within their company.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect during a leadership development internship?

As a Leadership Development Intern, you can expect to be involved in a variety of projects that focus on building your leadership, communication, and project management skills. Typical responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams on strategic initiatives, assisting in the planning and facilitation of training sessions, and supporting organizational change projects. You'll also have the opportunity to shadow senior leaders and participate in mentorship programs, which provide valuable insights into different leadership styles and business functions. This hands-on experience is designed to prepare you for future leadership roles within the organization.

Job description

OEM Leader – Leadership Development Program

Location: Denver, Colorado (100% Onsite, Monday–Friday) Experience Level: 0–3 years Start Date: ASAP (not considering students graduating in 2026)

About the Company Our client is on a mission to increase sustainability and create more jobs by making supply chains more efficient across the entire value chain. Through powerful AI technology, their autonomous supply chain platform seeks to reduce carbon emissions caused by supply chain transportation, improve the lives of approximately 3.5 million truck drivers and create more jobs across all players in B2B transactions. They operate in a very fast-paced and nimble environment that is highly focused on a team-first, accomplishment-oriented culture that is passionate about the organization's success. Our products have been developed by a world-class engineering team that simplifies complex business problems to a degree where adoption is effortless.

About the Role Our client is seeking exceptional early-career talent to join their OEM Leadership Development Program, a fast-track opportunity designed for high achievers who blend operations, engineering, product thinking, and customer-facing acumen. OEM Leaders are expected to rapidly take ownership of critical business functions or lead automation/operations initiatives for major enterprise customers. This is a highly selective, high-visibility program where successful hires will receive weekly mentorship from the CFO and, upon demonstrating strong performance, work directly with the Founder/CEO on strategic initiatives. If you thrive in fast-paced environments, enjoy solving hard technical and operational problems, and want a career path with significant autonomy and executive exposure—this role is built for you.

What You'll Do

  • Operational & Engineering Ownership Take full ownership of a core operational function or workflow—independently driving efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
  • Lead high-impact automation initiatives within enterprise customer environments.
  • Analyze complex datasets to identify bottlenecks, quantify impact, and propose technical solutions.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and customer teams to align operations with technical and business goals.
  • Translate technical challenges into actionable business recommendations.
  • Present findings and progress to senior leadership, including the CFO and CEO.
  • Customer & Product Engagement Work directly with enterprise customers to diagnose issues, optimize workflows, and enhance performance through automation.
  • Assist in shaping product strategy through data-driven insights from real-world operations.
  • Support account management activities by solving operational problems that matter most to customers.
  • Strategy, Execution, and Ownership Drive designated projects end-to-end, from scoping and analysis through execution and measurement.
  • Develop metrics, dashboards, and models to quantify initiative performance.
  • Own deliverables and deadlines with minimal oversight—this is an "extreme ownership" environment.

What Makes You a Strong Fit

  • Academic Excellence Bachelor's degree from a top-tier university preferred (e.g., UC Berkeley, USC, Dartmouth, Georgia Tech, Brown, Colorado School of Mines, etc.). Strong academic performance (high GPA, honors, awards, or scholarships).
  • Technical & Analytical Strength Background in a STEM-related discipline such as Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics, Data Science, or similar. Hands-on experience with tools like Python, SQL, MATLAB, R, C++, or comparable technical toolsets. Ability to analyze problems quantitatively and propose data-driven solutions.
  • Practical, Impactful Experience Experience through research roles, internships, co-ops, or technical projects. Demonstrated ability to drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency improvements, cost savings, successful product iterations).
  • Leadership & Initiative Strong track record of leading teams, clubs, projects, competitions, or entrepreneurial ventures. Self-starter mentality with the drive to take ownership and push projects to completion.
  • Communication & Collaboration Comfortable working cross-functionally and presenting to senior leaders. Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable ideas.
  • Mindset Entrepreneurial, curious, resourceful, and willing to learn quickly. Eager to work in a highly autonomous, high-expectation environment with executive visibility.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Weekly 1:1 mentorship with the CFO
  • Direct exposure to the Founder/CEO once initial milestones are met
  • Ownership of meaningful, high-impact initiatives from day one
  • Blend of engineering, operations, strategy, and product—not a traditional entry-level role
  • Fast career acceleration in a technical, customer-facing environment

Interview Process

  • Recruiter Call – Learn about the role, culture, and expectations.
  • CFO Interview – Leadership evaluation and problem-solving assessment.
  • Onsite Panel (Denver HQ) – Technical, operational, and culture-focused interviews with cross-functional leaders.

Ready to Apply? If you're a high-achieving, analytically sharp, and entrepreneurial early-career professional ready to accelerate your career and take on real ownership, we encourage you to apply. Salary Range: $100K to $145k DOE. Our client is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, veteran status, genetic information, or any other protected status. The company is committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable workplace where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
