Job description

Position: ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Technical Trainer

Reports to: ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Director of Reliability and Quality


Overview and Purpose

The Technical Trainer position is responsible for developing, conducting, and managing all technical training and development efforts within the Maintenance Department, Field Operations Department and for other departments as assigned. This position will assist with the creation of detailed and thorough materials to train new and current employees on Baselineโ€™s natural gas power generation equipment, telematics hardware, and software platform, and company Safety Policies in accordance with the HSE Department, and any other subject matter deemed to be relevant in the future. ย This training will be carried out on regularly scheduled intervals and ad hoc as specific training needs are identified throughout the company. ย This role will add value to Baseline by creating material and performing training efforts that ensure comprehensive instruction on all operational and applicable safety procedures. This position will report to the Director of Reliability and Quality and will be responsive to the needs of the Director of HSE and the Director(s) of Operations. ย 

ย Responsibilities

  • Become a technical subject matter expert on all company equipment, operations, and HSE programs to train new and existing employees. ย 
  • The first ninety days of employment will be spent traveling across Baselineโ€™s multiple regions of operational learning equipment and operational needs.ย 
  • Investigate and resolve product application problems while working with shop and field operationsย 
  • Assist with the development, review and modification, modify and presentation of technical material to team members while recording training sessions to store in a database
  • Continued improvement of detailed materials for initial and ongoing training as well as reference material after training is concluded
    1. This will include but not be limited to; writing generator-specific training guides, PowerPoint presentations, video-recordings of safety and equipment demonstrations, developing computer-based training, competency development documentation, employee training files, etc.
  • Work with your manager and the Director of HSE to ensure all Safety Training required by Baseline standard are implemented and taught in the appropriate manner to meet all the technical requirements of the material while enforcing HSE excellence.
  • Perform new hire technical training for new hires which consists of 2+ days of classroom and hands-on learning at Baselineโ€™s designated training facility as well as existing employees who return for further instruction as needed. ย This will require close collaboration with the leadership of the HR Department, HSE Department, and Operations Department and your assigned manager.ย 
  • Work with Shop Foreman, Shop Manager, Field Service Manager, and Operations Managers throughout the company to gain feedback on training material to assist with identifying gaps in technical material, and equipment failures so it can be reported back to your assigned manager.
  • administer technical assessments for operations personnel at all levels to determine continual training needsย 
    1. Work with managers to identify the training needs and schedules for each employee and report those needs back to your manager.
    2. If requested, assist with Conduct assessment of team members and provide feedback to managementย 
    3. Assist with the review and interpretation of training effectiveness by analyzing operations metrics alongside the Director of Operations and Technical Services your assigned Manager
  • Full understanding of spark ignited reciprocating engines with ability to disassemble are reassemble providing proper documentation
  • Previous experience fine tuning and writing logic in PLCs such as Deep Sea, ComAp, Basler 2020HD or similar
  • Already possess or can attain EGSA certificate
  • Is fluent with Econtrols fuel system controls and diagnostic platforms (Cummins Insight, CAT ET, or equivalent is acceptable)
  • Subject matter expert in closed loop systems with understanding of stoichiometric ratios

Qualifications

  • Candidate must have 3+ years minimum experience as a lead trainer position in a related industry
  • Minimum 5+ yearsโ€™ experience with natural gas engines, power generation, or compression equipment. ย 
    1. Electrical experience: deep understanding of electrical systems, circuitry, wiring, schematics, low and medium voltage, VFDs, electrical measurement devices, etc.
    2. Mechanical experience: knowledge of heavy-duty industrial engines, fuel systems (diesel and natural gas), engine fluid systems (oil/coolant), maintenance requirements, etc.
  • 2 yearsโ€™ experience with telematics platforms, including hardware and software interface, installation, troubleshooting, and integration preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with the writing and creating of training manuals, handbooks, reference material, etc. using various platforms such as Microsoft Office products and video recordings
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities including conducting multi-week training programs and in field support.
  • Equipment or training certifications a plus
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent experience in a related field preferred (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering)ย 
  • Ability to travel an estimated 60% - 75% of the time with short notice to other regions if neededย
