Lead Software Engineer

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the Consumer and Community Banking Connected Commerce Team, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm's business objectives.

Job responsibilities

  • Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
  • Develops secure high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
  • Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
  • Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture
  • Leads communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation, contributing to a repository of knowledge articles covering service configuration and support processes.
  • Expertise in test automation tools and implementing automated testing practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in large, collaborative teams to achieve organizational goals.
  • Strong ownership mindset, accountability, and demonstrated team-first behaviors.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Java, Spring, Spring Boot, JUnit, and CI/CD pipeline development and support and advanced knowledge of system architecture and design, with the ability to apply consistent patterns across platforms.
  • Hands-on expertise with Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and EKS cluster configuration.
  • Experience configuring monitoring/observability for cloud environments (metrics, logs, alerting, dashboards).
  • Proven experience with build and deployment pipelines using Jenkins and Spinnaker.
  • Experience working with AWS Lambda, AWS Neptune, and AWS Glue and experience building and maintaining AWS EKS environments, including cluster lifecycle management.
  • Experience with Kafka, Cassandra, cloud microservices development, and RESTful API design/development. Proficiency in SQL (Oracle) and NoSQL query/DSL experience (e.g., Elasticsearch).
  • Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security
  • Demonstrated proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.)
  • In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Familiarity with modern front-end technologies.
  • Experience working in Agile teams, including active participation in daily scrums and all core ceremonies (planning, refinement, reviews, retrospectives).
  • Proficiency coordinating with product and cross-functional technology partners to drive sprint execution and complete committed deliverables.
  • Strong communication skills, including providing timely status updates, raising risks/blockers early, and seeking clarifications as needed.
  • Demonstrated leadership in facilitating critical team meetings and driving alignment on decisions and next steps.
  • Experience coaching junior engineers through structured knowledge transfer and mentoring sessions.
  • Strong documentation discipline, including maintaining up-to-date project and technical documentation in Confluence.
