This role goes beyond filling positions, you will play a critical part in shaping the candidate experience, strengthening our workforce, and supporting new hires throughout their journey with the company. This is a full time role, in- office 5 days week in Manasass Park, VA
Position Overview:
The Senior ConstructionRecruiteris responsible for full life cycle recruitment, from job requisition creation through onboarding and post-hire engagement. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with hiring managers to understand workforce needs, develop strategic hiring plans, and deliver top talent across a variety of construction and corporate roles.This individual will also act as an advocate for new hires, ensuring a smooth transition into the company and maintaining engagement beyond the hiring process while providing leadership and direction to the recruiting function.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the full-cycle recruitment process for construction professionals, including CDL drivers, heavy equipment operators, foremen, laborers, mechanics, project management, and other skilled trades.
- Partner with operations leaders, project managers, and department heads to anticipate workforce needs and develop strategic hiring plans that support project timelines and business growth.
- Develop compelling job advertisements, job descriptions and sourcing strategies to attract qualified construction and transportation professionals in a highly competitive labor market.
- Actively source passive candidates through networking, referrals, industry associations, trade schools, CDL schools, career fairs, social media, and online recruiting platforms.
- Screen resumes, conduct phone and in-person interviews, verify qualifications, and evaluate candidates based on technical skills, certifications, safety record, and cultural fit.
- Coordinate and manage the interview, selection, offer, and onboarding process to ensure an efficient and positive candidate experience.
- Collaborate with hiring managers to develop competitive compensation recommendations and hiring strategies.
- Build and maintain talent pipelines for high-volume and hard-to-fill positions, ensuring qualified candidates are readily available to meet operational demands.
- Track recruiting metrics, labor market trends, and competitor hiring practices to continuously improve recruiting effectiveness.
- Support onboarding and orientation to ensure new hires successfully transition into the organization and remain engaged throughout their employment.
- Ensure all recruiting activities comply with federal, state, local employment laws, DOT regulations, and company policies.
- Represent Strittmatter Companies at trade schools, CDL academies, military recruiting events, career fairs, and community workforce development initiatives.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, and develop the recruiting team to achieve hiring goals and deliver an exceptional candidate experience.
- Establish individual and team performance expectations, monitor recruiting metrics, and provide regular feedback and coaching.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, and professional development planning for recruiting staff.
- Assign and prioritize recruiting workloads to ensure timely and effective hiring across all business units.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and service excellence.
- Train recruiters and hiring managers on recruiting best practices, interviewing techniques, employment compliance, and candidate experience standards.
- Partner with HR leadership to develop workforce planning strategies, succession planning initiatives, and long-term talent acquisition goals.
- Analyze recruiting metrics and trends to identify opportunities for process improvements, increased efficiency, and enhanced hiring outcomes.
Qualifications
- Proven ability to develop and execute recruiting strategies across multiple roles.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing, mentoring, or developing recruiting professionals or HR team members.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage competing priorities.
- Knowledge of employment laws, hiring practices, and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and applicant tracking systems (ATS).
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field, or equivalent work experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of full-cycle construction recruiting experience preferred.
- Previous experience leading or supervising a recruiting or talent acquisition team preferred.
- Experience recruiting within the construction industry (operators, CDL drivers, laborers, foremen, mechanics, and related skilled trades) strongly preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
