Job description

Job Summary:
Axon is on a mission to Protect Life, addressing critical safety and justice issues with their ecosystem of devices and cloud software. The Infrastructure Architect will be responsible for the technical direction and architectural integrity of Axon’s core infrastructure platforms, leading a team of engineers to ensure high operational standards and effective collaboration with various teams.
Responsibilities:
• Own the architecture and technical direction for Axon’s infrastructure platforms, including VMware, storage, cloud (Azure/AWS), databases, and core platform services.
• Lead and manage a team of infrastructure engineers, providing technical guidance, prioritization, and mentorship while ensuring high operational standards.
• Design, review, and approve infrastructure solutions supporting corporate IT and Axon product/R&D teams, balancing scalability, security, reliability, and cost.
• Remain hands-on in critical areas such as virtualization, cloud engineering, storage, and database platforms, serving as a senior escalation point.
• Partner closely with Network, Platform, Security, and Product teams to deliver well-architected, cross-functional solutions.
• Drive infrastructure modernization efforts, including migrations, lifecycle management, technical debt reduction, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and automation.
• Establish standards, documentation, and best practices to improve resilience, observability, and operational maturity.
• Define, implement, and report on key infrastructure metrics and KPIs to provide visibility into platform health, capacity, cost, reliability, and team performance.
• Support planning and execution of infrastructure initiatives aligned with business growth and long-term strategy.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 8+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, with demonstrated ownership of complex on-prem and cloud environments.
• Deep hands-on expertise with VMware virtualization, enterprise storage, and cloud infrastructure (Azure required; AWS preferred).
• Strong experience with database and platform services, including SQL-based environments.
• Proven experience leading and managing technical infrastructure teams, with a track record of driving results through others.
• Proven experience defining, tracking, and reporting on infrastructure metrics, KPIs, and dashboards for leadership visibility and data-driven decisions.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools (e.g. Terraform, Ansible, GitHub Actions) to deliver repeatable, scalable, and version-controlled infrastructure across hybrid environments.
• Strong communicator and collaborator who aligns with Axon’s values of ownership, accountability, teamwork, and mission focus.
