LDOs are specialists who fill positions that require extensive practical experience and detailed knowledge in specific fields, such as engineering, electronics, or administration. Unlike traditional officers, LDOs are not required to have a college degree, but are selected for their performance, experience, and leadership potential. They bridge the gap between enlisted personnel and the officer corps, providing valuable continuity and technical guidance.
