5 Partnership Elementary Principals
WORK TYPE:
The Partnership team works in a hybrid capacity. This position is expected to be in schools 80% of the time, with occasional visits to the Partnership office in Downtown LA. School sites are based in Boyle Heights, South Los Angeles, and Watts. This is a full-time, year-round position.
ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIP FOR LOS ANGELES SCHOOLS
Launched in 2007, the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools' mission is to transform schools to revolutionize school systems, empowering all students with a high-quality education. The Partnership is a non-profit, in-district partner to LA Unified, not a charter network. As an independent nonprofit organization, the Partnership serves 13,550 students across 20 LA Unified schools in Boyle Heights, South Los Angeles, and Watts. The Partnership works within the LA Unified School District context, which includes honoring all collective bargaining agreements for its teachers and school staff. To learn more about the Partnership, our mission, and how we approach our goals, please visit our website.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools is seeking a strategic Principal Supervisor for our elementary schools. Principal Supervisors coach, develop, and hold accountable school principals to ensure all students, especially Black students and emergent bilingual learners, receive an excellent education. Guided by the Partnership's 2030 Strategic Plan, Principal Supervisors build principal capacity to ensure Partnership schools deliver high-quality instruction, execute strong data cycles, foster identity-affirming school cultures, strategically use resources, and lead their instructional leadership teams (ILTs) with coherence and impact.
Principal Supervisors are collaborative leaders who align and coordinate the work of Partnership support teams - including school-based instructional coaches, School Transformation Coordinators, and Instructional Coordinators - to ensure that principals receive consistent and holistic support in service of student achievement and school transformation. Principal Supervisors are responsible for advising on school-based talent strategy, operational functions, and partnering with LAUSD counterparts to identify and remove systemic barriers that impede school success. Principal Supervisors oversee up to 5 Partnership school principals and report directly to the Lead Principal Supervisor.
Principal Supervisors have a direct impact on the 2030 strategic plan by leading a vision for transformative school leadership that defines a common language, competencies, and daily practices for school leaders. Principal Supervisors support the design and implementation of a system of adult learning that builds organizational, instructional, and school culture leadership, while guiding principals in developing and executing differentiated school improvement plans, especially for Black and Emergent Bilingual learners. The Principal Supervisor also serves as a key advocate for policies that remove barriers to recruiting, developing, and retaining transformative educators, and ensures funding is translated into equitable, sustainable practices at the school level.
The Partnership is committed to continuously building an anti-racist culture that promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in classrooms and in our home office. The Principal Supervisor, Elementary, will be someone who is committed to implementing these values in creative ways when executing day-to-day tasks and responsibilities.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Supervision & Coaching of School Leaders (60%)
- Manage, develop, coach, and support five elementary principals and their teams to build and implement solutions that accelerate student achievement and school transformation
- Thought-partner with principals to develop and align strategic plans ("Call-to-Action") to district-wide goals
- Coach school leaders to serve as visionary and collaborative leaders who run highly effective leadership teams, including the Instructional Leadership Team, to drive the implementation of High Quality Instructional Materials and other effective pedagogical practices to improve student achievement
- Develop school leaders to implement transformational and inclusive cultures of belonging with Black and Emergent Bilingual students at the center, including identity-affirming and culturally responsive practices
- Engage in regular feedback, progress monitoring, and evaluation processes for school leaders
Strategic Leadership & Collaboration (30%)
- Lead and inspire Partnership colleagues to strategically coordinate and align resources and supports for school site teams
- Facilitate monthly training and community-building activities for Partnership cohort teams that include school-based instructional coaches, School Transformation Coordinators, and Instructional Coordinators
- Disaggregate and analyze school site data to identify gaps and needs, monitor progress, inform professional development, and leverage Partnership and LAUSD supports to accelerate student achievement
- Collaborate with LAUSD Instructional Directors and Operational Coordinators to help remove barriers to school success, deploying differentiated resources and supports
- Collaborate with the Policy and Advocacy team to elevate best practices and core opportunities for systems change
- Assess which policies and practices are barriers to students' college and career readiness
Local District and LAUSD Coordination and Relationships (10%)
- Cultivate relationships with district colleagues and manage local district compliance and coordination efforts
- Work closely across functions to align on priorities, ensuring schools comply with district policies
A successful first year in this role will look like:
- Build strong and trusting relationships with principals that establish a foundation for supervision, management, development, and coaching.
- Strengthen instructional leadership and data practices by supporting principals to connect student data to instructional action and implement consistent observation systems and HQIM protocols that promote culturally responsive teaching across schools.
- Align and coordinate academic, school culture, and operational resources from Cohort Teams to elementary schools and school leadership, ensuring coherence between school and network priorities.
- Build relationships with LAUSD Regional counterparts to ensure smooth coordination, compliance, and the removal of barriers for schools.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in education in similar communities as the Partnership, with historical impact data, and with a strong preference for candidates with a track record of envisioning and leading school transformation
- 5+ years of experience as a full-time certificated public school principal, with historical impact data
- 3+ years of full-time credentialed teaching experience in similar communities as the Partnership, with historical impact data
- 5+ years of leading and managing teams with a demonstrated ability to set and progress monitor goals, build capacity through mentoring relationships, and coach team members to sustainably implement educator- and student-centered leadership practices
- Deep knowledge of the High Quality Instructional Materials and State Standards to drive student achievement
- Knowledge of Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT), as well as identity-affirming curriculum and pedagogy

- Understanding and knowledge of adult learning principles, with experience designing and implementing comprehensive and innovative professional development programs
- Extensive experience in observing and giving feedback on instructional practices
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with administrative, instructional, support, and Partnership staff
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to utilize quantitative and qualitative analysis to support decision-making
- Ability to cast a clear and mission-aligned strategy and vision, and bring others along through goal-setting, progress monitoring, and executing day-to-day work
- Excellent critical- and systems-thinking skills with the ability to identify potential gaps, and equity gaps in particular
- Ability to build diverse and inclusive teams, including promoting transparent decision making, navigating conflict, and fostering psychological safety
- Ability to travel between school sites and Partnership Home Office
- Spanish language fluency (spoken and written), preferred
- A deep belief in the power of our communities, the Partnership's mission, approach, and core values
- A commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment for all team members
- A willingness to learn, grow, and model the Partnership competencies: Anti-racism, root cause analysis, long-term thinking, teaming and collaboration, psychological safety, and learning and growth
The starting salary for external candidates is $171,433. The Partnership's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion extends to our compensation practices. Our goal is to ensure that salaries are fair for all staff members who hold many intersectional identities, and we set salaries based on a robust compensation model grounded in consistency and transparency. The exact salary for this position is set through the Partnership's compensation policy and is dependent on the candidate's relevant skills, experiences, and organizational tenure. In support of our vision for pay equity, candidate salaries are determined by a formula and we do not negotiate.
The Partnership also offers a robust benefits package including employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their dependents; a 403(b) retirement program with employee match and vesting; parental and sabbatical leaves; a professional development allowance; and generous paid time off.
APPLICATION GUIDELINES
Please prepare your resume and a cover letter tailored to this position. You will submit your documents and application via this link.

While this job description outlines the major responsibilities and requirements to be successful in this role, the Partnership is committed to considering all applicants who are passionate about our mission and can see themselves excelling in this role - including those with diverse and non-traditional work experience.
For technical assistance or support for applying with a disability, please contact the Home Office Talent Team.
