Weโ€™re seeking a Senior Project Engineer with expertise in Land Development Civil Infrastructure to support our Newport Beach office. This role is ideal for a California licensed P.E. with years of experience who enjoys leading technical delivery, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating directly with clients. Youโ€™ll work closely with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver site development projects, including grading, drainage, underground utilities, and grade separations - helping to shape and build across the West Coast.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical design and delivery of land development projects, including site layout, grading, drainage systems, underground utilities, and grade separations
  • Organize project workflows, establish design criteria, and delegate tasks to junior staff
  • Make decisions on specific project elements and consult with senior leadership on complex or critical issues
  • Support QA/QC implementation and identify out-of-scope services
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across teams
  • Assist in coordinating sub-consultant work and ensure cohesive project execution
  • Attend project meetings and represent BKF as a secondary point-of-contact
  • Contribute to proposal development and cross-sell BKFโ€™s services to regional clients
  • Manage assigned project elements within established budgets and timelines

Requirements

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program
  • California Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is highly preferred, Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) will also be considered
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in land development design and project delivery
  • Strong background in site development, grading, drainage, underground utilities, and entitlement processes
  • Experienced with local agency standards, permitting processes, and coordination with municipalities and utility owners
  • Proficiency in technical design AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and project management tools
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, both verbal and written, especially in client-facing settings
  • Occasional travel required between BKF offices and client sites

Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.

Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be required.
