Laboratory Information System Remote information

What is a Laboratory Information System (LIS) remote job?

A Laboratory Information System (LIS) remote job involves managing and supporting software that tracks, manages, and stores laboratory data, but the work is performed from a location outside the traditional laboratory or hospital setting. Remote LIS professionals may be responsible for software implementation, troubleshooting, user training, and ensuring data integrity via secure online systems. These roles require strong technical skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of laboratory workflows. Working remotely allows LIS specialists to provide support to multiple sites without being physically present.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Laboratory Information System (LIS) remote specialist?

To thrive as a Laboratory Information System Remote Specialist, you need expertise in laboratory workflows, LIS software management, and a degree in medical technology, information technology, or a related field. Familiarity with LIS platforms (such as Cerner, Sunquest, or Epic Beaker), HL7 messaging, and system integration certifications are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills enable successful remote troubleshooting and collaboration with lab staff. These competencies are crucial to ensure reliable laboratory operations, accurate data management, and seamless support from a remote location.

What are the typical challenges faced when supporting a Laboratory Information System (LIS) remotely, and how can they be addressed?

Remote support professionals for Laboratory Information Systems often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting complex technical issues without onsite access, coordinating with laboratory staff across different shifts, and ensuring data security during remote sessions. Success in this role relies on strong communication skills, familiarity with remote diagnostic tools, and a proactive approach to documentation and follow-up. Building effective relationships with onsite users and maintaining a clear process for escalation can help overcome these hurdles while ensuring laboratory operations remain uninterrupted.

What is the difference between Laboratory Information System Remote vs Medical Laboratory Technician?

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a Senior HRIS Analyst to own and evolve our Workday platform, with a primary focus on Core HCM and Security. We're looking for someone with a strong Workday foundation and an inventor mindset to help build what's next.

The Mountain View base salary range for this full-time position is $184,000-$226,000, plus equity and benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. If based in or near Mountain View, CA, the role requires in-office work 2 days a week, though we are open to remote candidates in PT or CT time zones.ย ย

WHAT YOU'LL DOย

Security & Data Governance

  • Design and manage Workday security architecture (roles, domains, permissions)
  • Ensure compliance with audit, privacy, and data governance standards
  • Partner with IT and Security teams on access controls and risk mitigation

System Strategy & Optimization

  • Ensure Workday is not operated in isolation but as part of a broader enterprise ecosystem; design solutions that support end-to-end business processes across systems, including access governance, compliance, and cross-functional workflow orchestration
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate People processes through Workday and integrated systems
  • Drive scalable solutions that reduce manual effort and improve data accuracy
  • Contribute to the Workday roadmap by defining and prioritizing enhancements based on business impact, scalability, and system health
  • Establish and maintain system governance and best practices
  • Partner with People Operations and external Workday support to manage escalations, prioritize issues, and drive systemic resolution of recurring problems
  • Ensure data consistency and integrity across Workday and downstream financial systems, including reconciliation of headcount, compensation, and organizational structures used in financial reporting and planning.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation (business processes, decision logic, architecture diagrams); leverage AI tools to accelerate documentation, identify logic gaps, and propose enhancements

Reporting & Insights

  • Build and maintain advanced Workday reports, dashboards, and calculated fields
  • Partner with stakeholders to deliver actionable insights across People and Finance
  • Ensure consistency and integrity of workforce data

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner with People Ops, Total Rewards, Finance, and IT to translate business requirements into system solutions
  • Act as a subject matter expert on Workday capabilities and limitations
  • Act as a key partner to Finance in supporting workforce planning, budgeting, and actuals reporting by ensuring accurate and timely workforce data
  • Support testing strategy (UAT) and ensure high-quality system deployments
  • Leverage AI and structured methodologies to define test strategies, generate test cases, support design reviews, and proactively identify logic gaps or architectural improvements prior to deployment

Integrations & Troubleshooting

  • Partner with technical and business teams to support Workday integrations and data flows
  • Troubleshoot system issues, root cause errors, and implement scalable fixes
  • Partner closely with Workday architects and platform engineers to align on architecture, ensure scalable solutions, and support enterprise-wide workflow design

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FORย

  • 4+ years of HRIS experience with deep Workday expertise
  • Strong configuration experience in Core HCM & Securityย
  • Experience with Workday configuration including Business Process Framework, Security, and Advanced Reporting (Calculated Fields)
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with People, Finance, and IT teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience creating structured documentation and leveraging AI tools to enhance system design, testing, and analysis
  • Advanced analytical and technical skills for translating and analyzing business needs into requirements, driving implementations, and delivering effective, value-adding solutions
  • Exceptional technical aptitude and strong desire for learning new technologies and solution architectures
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, or similar tools) as part of your software development workflow?
  • Experience with Workday's systems below is a plus:ย
    • Advanced Compensation
