As a labor and delivery nurse manager, your job is to oversee staff who help women give birth. In this role, you may manage various clinical operations, ensure a high standard of patient care, resolve complaints and problems, and help schedule shifts to ensure there are always enough caregivers within the facility. You may also help develop hospital policies. Women can give birth at any time, so labor and delivery nurse managers may work in rotating shifts to ensure 24/7 coverage for the facility. This includes weekends and holidays. Most labor and delivery nurse managers are trained nurses and maintain their licensing and certifications, but this is primarily a managerial role. Companies do not expect you to get personally involved with providing care unless something irregular happens.
