Job description

JOB TITLE - Lab Technician Range $22.00 to $28.00 per hour
The primary functionof this position will be to collect samples for analysis using gas cabinets andfume hoods. In addition, simple wet chemistry tests will also berequired. Additionally, the successful candidate may need to assist withsample analysis of other products as necessary. Operate and maintainsophisticated gas equipment and analytical instrumentation - Design, develop,and carry out new analytical processes.
Some of thechemicals involved are hazardous in nature. The position involvescollecting samples from gas cylinders and preparing them for analysis and thenanalyzing the samples using various techniques. Basic computer software skillssuch as Microsoft Office platforms including Outlook email is necessary. Priorexperience in a chemistry lab setting is a plus for thisposition. This position will report to the lab manager or supervisor.
Essential Functions
Collecting samples from gas cylinders
Cleaning laboratorylabware
Performing some wet chemistrytests
Making mechanicalconnections such as VCR, Swagelok, and NPT fittings
Leak checking ofequipment to ensure gas tight connections
Use of basic computersoftware (Microsoft e-mail, word processing, and MS Excel)
Handling flammableliquids, acidic and caustic solutions and materials.
Handling andtransporting pressurized gas cylinders
Previous experience andfamiliar with PPE used in handling chemicals
Accurate, legibledocumentation and recording of all required lab data
Conducting analytical testsusing a variety of instruments
Develop and assist indeveloping analytical instruments and methods
Additional duties asassigned.

Qualifications
BS ChemicalEngineering or Chemistry - Required
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years' experience in a relevant fieldinvolving the construction of gas manifolds and the hands-on use of specialtygases.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Direct experiencewith safely handling, delivering, analyzing, processing and/or abating reactiveor corrosive gases used in synthesis, purification or related areas and canquickly become self-sufficient and productive. Ideally prior experience withdesigning gas handling manifolds to conduct new analytical methodology. -Experience in metals analysis of products using ICP-MS, with knowledge andexperience of diverse product sampling methods for such analyses. - Familiaritywith gas handling equipment including mass flow controllers, pressurecontrollers and regulators, various line valves, pressure transducers, pressurerelief systems, restrictive flow orifices, thermocouples and temperaturecontrol equipment. - Ideally experience with micro-contamination, ultra-highpurity systems and environments, i.e. use of clean rooms, particle andhydrocarbon exposure prevention. - Analytical experience to measure traceimpurities in gases using FTIR spectroscopy, GC, GC/MS, GC-ICP-MS, APIMS, RGA,CRDS and other moisture analysis methods, Particle measurement, TGA. -Proficiency in Microsoft programs and ideally experience with LabView, ThemoOmnic/MKS MG2000/Vista FTIR software, MKS Process eye RGA software, GC datahandling software, controls software etc.
