Job Summaryย 

The Lab Manager is responsible for performing laboratory testing and supervising the daily operations of the Lab. ย 


Responsibilities:

  • Perform geotechnical soils laboratory testing, including gradations, swell, Atterberg limits, compaction, triaxial strength, consolidation, and ring shear.ย 
  • Maintain laboratory accreditation, certifications, and calibrations.ย 
  • Use and maintain scientific testing equipment.ย 
  • Process test data using computer software.ย 
  • Communicate test progress and present test results.ย 
  • Ensure that laboratory testing practices comply with applicable standards and industry practices.ย 
  • Supervise and review the work of lab technicians.ย 
  • Interact and communicate with clients, vendors, and staff at all levels.ย 
  • Follow Shannon & Wilsons Quality Assurance policy.ย 
  • Follow and promote Shannon and Wilson's Health and Safety and Loss Prevention policies.ย 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.ย 

Requirements

  • BS Civil Engineering or Geology degree. ย 
  • 5 plus years of experience as a laboratory technician would be considered in lieu of a degree. ย ย 
  • Experience completing geotechnical soils laboratory tests. ย ย 
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment, related supplies, computer hardware and software, and their applications. ย ย 
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively as appropriateย 
  • Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills. ย 
  • Personable, flexible, and professional demeanor. ย 
  • The ability to work independently with the appropriate level of OR minimal supervision. ย 
  • The willingness and ability to travel to support the needs of other Shannon & Wilson offices. ย ย 
  • A valid driver license and insurable driving record. ย 
  • Basic computer skills: MS Word, Excel (required); MS Access (desirable). ย 
  • Critical thinking and analysis. ย 
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying 30+ pounds. ย 
  • Working in all weather conditions, on uneven terrain. ย 
  • The ability to travel (drive or fly) to field sites per project needs and job sites locally and out of state. ย ย 

Level Placementย 

Typically, depending on an applicant's education, experience, other qualifications they possess, if they are a fit for the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, a Senior-Level Lab Technician typically would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Technical Service IV level or Senior Technical Services level.ย
