Job Description Summary

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina is seeking an academically oriented Cytogenetics / Genomics (“Cytogenomics”) Laboratory Director with 2 to 10+ years of experience. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Along with the Medical Directors and Lab Directors of Cytogenetics, Genomics, and Molecular Pathology, this faculty member will participate in a busy laboratory service, which includes constitutional and somatic testing. Current methodologies include cytogenetics, FISH, SNP microarray, and NGS. The faculty member should be proficient in the review of data and interpretation of results for those techniques employed in the clinical work-up of cases for precision oncology and clinical genetics. The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience in new molecular genomic and genetic test development, validation, and implementation within a College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited laboratory. Fostering collaborative relationships with clinicians and researchers and serving as a resource to technologists at the bench will be expected. This individual will instruct medical students, participate in the training of pathology residents and fellows, and actively participate in the academic mission of the Pathology Department and NCI-designated Hollings Cancer Center programs. The Department offers an ACGME-accredited fellowship training program in Molecular Genetic Pathology for which the candidate will play a key educational role. Close collaboration with the Surgical Pathology and Hematopathology teams including their trainees is expected.

Required Qualifications

PhD with American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) certification (or eligibility) in Cytogenetics and Genomics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics or MD or equivalent degree with relevant pathology specialty training and certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic, Clinical, and Molecular Genetic Pathology and at least two years of experience in Cytogenetics or Genomics, with eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina
