About this Job
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette New Iberia Research Center specializes in the breeding, management, and importation of a diverse range of nonhuman primate species and offers a broad range of diagnostic, laboratory, and human resources for the development and characterization of nonhuman primate models for applied and basic research aimed at promoting human quality of life.
We're looking for a Laboratory Technician (Animal Care Technician) to join our New Iberia Research Center team. Animal Care Technicians play a vital role in supporting laboratory operations through technical maintenance and observational work.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of general laboratory experience; OR
Completion of an accredited clinical laboratory or medical laboratory technology program; OR
An associate or bachelor's degree in medical technology, nursing, clinical laboratory science, or a biological, physical, or chemical science; OR
Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technician or Laboratory Animal Technologist by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every six semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in any of the biological, physical, chemical, or agricultural sciences will substitute for one year of experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Positions in Human Testing Laboratory environments must be licensed to practice as either a Laboratory Assistant or a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Technician in the State of Louisiana as required by Louisiana Clinical Laboratory Personnel Law R.S. 37:1311-1329 and the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
  • Assist with the preparation, calibration, and operation of laboratory instruments and equipment
  • Conduct tests, record data, and compile reports in accordance with established lab procedures
  • Prepare and handle chemical, biological, or physical samples and reagents
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of lab instruments and facilities
  • Observe and document results, maintaining accurate records for experiments and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, and procedural standards
  • Support research and instructional staff during experiments and laboratory classes
  • Monitor equipment and materials inventory and submit orders as needed
  • Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and escalate more complex problems appropriately
