Job description

LAB TECHNICHIAN

Automation Personnel Services is looking for Lab Technician that is responsible for maintaining test fixtures, conducting product testing on power tools and accessories, and building for tools and accessory testing. Performs both routine and complex testing projects with general supervision, assists with research and development testing, and ensures compliance with UL and CSA standards. Manages test samples, maintains accurate records, supports warehouse storage activities, and becoming certified by UL and CSA for product testing, audits and quality processes. Works closely with Project Leaders and engineering teams to evaluate product performance, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Lab Technician Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build and assemble test fixtures used for power tool and accessory testing
  • Perform safety, performance, and durability testing on power tools and related products.
  • Document, analyze, and report test results while maintaining accurate test records.
  • Assist engineers and Project Leaders with research, development, and product validation projects.
  • Support UL and CSA certification testing, audits, and compliance requirements while managing test samples and laboratory equipment. Personal protective equipment and securing loads properly.
Lab Technician Qualifications and Requirements
  • Associate degree in electrical field or post-secondary education/ training in electrical or electronic technology, Trade school, technical College or related seminars or certifications.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills – Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Technical & Mechanical Aptitude – Experience with electro-mechanical systems, power tools, test equipment, and fixture assembly.
  • UL/CSA Compliance Knowledge – Familiarity with UL/CSA standards, certification testing, and audit requirements.
  • Electrical/Electronic Knowledge – Understanding of electrical theory, circuits, and product testing methodologies.
  • Project & Time Management – Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Attention to Detail & Quality Focus – Maintains accurate documentation and ensures testing is performed thoroughly and consistently.
  • Communication Skills – Strong verbal and written communication skills for documenting results and collaborating with teams.
  • Teamwork & Professionalism – Works effectively with engineers, project leaders, and cross-functional teams while maintaining a professional attitude.
  • Computer Proficiency – Experience with Microsoft Office 365, Outlook, Teams, Windows, and electronic documentation systems.

Physical Demands:
Requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, bending, and use of hands and tools, with occasional lifting of up to 65 pounds. Must be able to work safely in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and tolerate occasional exposure to noise, chemicals, and other workplace hazards. Flexible hours may be required.
Work Environment & Travel:
Work is performed primarily in a laboratory and warehouse environment using electronic measuring equipment, hand tools, and power tools, with occasional work in a fast-paced office setting. The role may involve exposure to moderate noise and requires regular use of standard office equipment. Some travel may be required.
