About Us

Job Summary
The University of North Georgia (Dahlonega campus) is currently accepting applications for a Language Lab Assistant. The Language Lab Assistant, under the supervision of the Language Lab Coordinator, is tasked with facilitating workshops and completing assessments and feedback on student lab activities for all 1001/1002 students in Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Italian, and Portuguese. Language Lab Assistants are also available for individual tutoring and faculty-directed projects in Arabic, Chinese, Korean, and Russian. The Language Lab does hire some non-language specific Lab Assistants to help with administrative tasks and outreach to the UNG community via social media, as well as help students use the technology required in lab assignments.
Responsibilities
  • The student's duties may include grading lab activities using an assignment-specific rubric in D2L, assisting students with language tutoring and technology questions related to lab assignments, assisting with responding to student emails, maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, and completing special projects as requested by faculty or the Language Lab Coordinator.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • The student must be able to stay calm and friendly in stressful, busy situations while delivering excellent customer service.
  • The student must be organized and willing to learn new software that is utilized by students to complete lab assignments.

Required Qualifications
  • Students who wish to serve as Language Lab Assistants must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to be eligible for student employment.
  • Applicants must have completed the 2002 level in the language they intend to tutor or grade, or demonstrate equivalent proficiency during an in-person interview.
  • Applicants for non-language-specific positions should be prepared to discuss their prior experience learning another language or their interest in gaining such experience.
